Eagles News: ESPN says Philadelphia should sign a former Vic Fangio safety (2024)

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Philadelphia Eagles. Sign S Eddie Jackson. What the Eagles could use is defensive depth. At safety, for example, Sydney Brown is coming back from an ACL injury suffered late last season, leaving little depth behind C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Reed Blankenship. Jackson, a former Bears star, would help stabilize the unit. He could play strong safety if Gardner-Johnson lines up in the slot, or he might even beat out Blankenship for the free safety position.

Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni are fine - BGN
The response certainly came off awkward. But it really means nothing. Earlier this month, as the Eagles closed minicamp, Jalen Hurts was asked a question about Nick Sirianni’s acceptance of the changes being implemented to the offense under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. “Um, I mean, that’s a great question,” said Hurts, stumbling, and you can see him trying not to laugh. “I don’t know that I know the answer to it.” That was followed by Hurts replying to a follow up question as to what he has seen from Sirianni adjusting to it, “Um, I think he’s been great in the messages he’s delivering to the team. Trying to be very intentional in what he’s saying. Yeah.” Hurts was called out for not being more demonstrative in praising Sirianni with typical in-house flotsam clichés. When he did not, Hurts was questioned as to whether he had a working relationship with Sirianni.

How much did Eagles DC Vic Fangio play rookies with the Dolphins, Broncos, Bears, and 49ers? - PhillyVoice
Not including Carradine, who was injured his rookie season, Day 1 and 2 picks played an average of 507 defensive snaps as rookies. First-round picks played an average of 726 snaps. My conclusion: Fangio isn’t super afraid to play his early round picks. “He’s going to have to adapt to the NFL game, covering NFL receivers, NFL schemes in the passing game,” Fangio said of Mitchell during a May press conference. “There’s a lot to learn. We think he’s the right guy emotionally and mentally to do that. Hopefully he’ll pay dividends quickly rather than later. But he’s going to be one of the many competing.”

9. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES. While Saquon Barkley is a talented back, he has not been the same player he was as a rookie in 2018 when he took the league by storm. He rushed for more than 900 yards last season and stayed relatively healthy, which was a win in itself. With Barkley now in Philly, paired with a better offensive line and a more diverse offense, we could see the best version of him since that rookie season. The Eagles also have the talented Kenneth Gainwell behind him.

Biggest Eagles questions by position: Defense - NBCSP
Edge rusher: Are Eagles ready to replace Haason Reddick’s production? The Eagles have talent and depth on the edge but also face a bunch of questions with this group that includes Josh Sweat, Bryce Huff, Brandon Graham and Nolan Smith. It won’t be easy to replace Haason Reddick’s production over the last two years. He was a proven player on the edge. Sweat and Graham have been mainstays of the Eagles’ defensive line for years but Sweat is coming off a terrible second half of 2023 and Graham is 36 and entering Year 15 in the NFL. Sweat is going to be a starter and has a lot to prove entering a contract season; he has the chance to earn a big pay day from the Eagles or someone else. Meanwhile, Graham shouldn’t be asked to play that much but can still be a solid contributor. Huff and Smith have to prove it. Huff has been an effective pass rusher with the Jets the past few years but didn’t have a breakout season in terms of traditional production until his 10-sack season in 2023. Now, he’ll be asked to play way more snaps as a presumed starter in the Eagles’ defense. The Eagles signed him a three-year, $51.1 million deal this offseason and there will be some pressure to live up to that. And Smith had a disappointing rookie season but will hopefully make a jump in Year 2. He showed some flashes as a rookie in training camp but we’ll hopefully see an improved player this summer.

2024 NFL All-Breakout Team, Offense: Bryce Young can bounce back; Bills will lean on young playmakers - NFL.com
I performed this same exercise last offseason, accurately predicting breakout years from guys like George Pickens, Tyler Smith, Derrick Brown and Derek Stingley Jr. Of course, not every selection proved savvy — SEE: Kenny Pickett, Kadarius Toney, Nakobe Dean — but that won’t stop me from providing another forecast on future stars.

3 impact players on the Cowboys’ roster who probably won’t be with the team in 2025 - Blogging The Boys
3) OL Zack Martin. When it’s all said and done, there’s a real chance Zack Martin will go down as one of the 10 best Cowboys of all time. The 33-year-old guard was once against spectacular last season, earning First-Team All-Pro honors for the seventh time in his ten-year career. Martin, who signed a two-year extension during training camp last summer, is set to hit the open market next spring for the first time in his NFL career. While there is always an outside chance Martin could take the Tyron Smith route of playing out this season and signing with another team in free agency, it seems almost certain if he decides to keep playing it will be for the Cowboys. The seven-time All-Pro is still capable of playing at an extremely high level. Even at his advanced age, Martin is still one of, if not the, best guard in the entire league. Despite this, questions have arisen about his long-term future and if this season could be his last in the league. In an interview with Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News in early June, the star lineman opened up about how this upcoming season could be his last.

Pro Football Network ranks Giants’ hiring of Joe Judge as 6th-worst in NFL history - Big Blue View
Every offseason, new coaches are hired, and teams hope to have found their next Bill Belichick, Andy Reid, or Mike Tomlin. Certain teams strike while others make another change in just a few short years. Pro Football Network’s Dallas Robinson ranked the top 10 worst head coaching hires in NFL history earlier this week. Since 2016, the New York Giants have seen four head coaches roaming the sidelines and perhaps none more polarizing than Joe Judge. The hiring of Judge comes in sixth on the list.

The 5 O’Clock Club: The Commanders 1st-round cornerback...no, the other one - Hogs Haven
In training camp, Noah Igbinoghene will likely be competing for a role as a backup corner on the Commanders 2024 roster. I’m not sure that anyone in his cohort really has a more impressive resume than he does.

Gardner Minshew’s chaotic Raiders photoshoot keeps getting better with every picture - SB Nation
It’s been a long, long time since the Raiders had swagger at their quarterback position — but no fans expected this kind of swag from Gardner Minshew. It’s photo week around the NFL, and when the studio lights came on the QB didn’t disappoint.
