Family-run motel offering a casino, casual dining & a rustic bar with an expansive coin collection.

I think it's funny how people expect so much from a place with a great reputation, but the reality of it is that the silver dollar inn doesn't have too much going for it which is what I love about it. I spent the night here with my family and we had a great time with the scenery being out in the middle of nowhere. Just the soft roar of the freeway and the company of other people. Truly I love the gift shop and the restaurant and bar was also delightful. The hotel rooms were nice and clean and I was made feel very welcome there. I can't wait to go back and stay longer so I can explore the rest of Montana.

Always a great place to stop. Good food, bar/restaurants, Coffee shop, Lots of good parking especially if you are a trucker..Love that aspect. Can't go wrong here. Only problem is that I spend too much money when I stop here. So many cool vendors and truly unique things to buy here. It's a great place to do your gift shopping. The employees are really nice and down to earth. Love it here. Thanks for the great experience...

Very friendly atmosphere. Bar maids and employees are awesome. They have very good food. Motel is nice and clean. Free camping in rear quiet place to sleep. as a trucker, I'm there 4 times a week.24 hour convenience store and shower in motel.

Great spot for the night. I'm a OTR trucker.. plenty of space to park. Had a tasty meal of Bison ground steak in the restaurant inside the gift shop, that's great too!! I didn't try the bar though. The gas station has a sports bar in it too.. Clean bathrooms.

Usually this is a drive by on our east -west ventures but the snow and hour changed our minds this time and we are so glad. What a gem. No frills but clean, comfortable, quiet and very pet friendly, the girls even got their own goody bag. Staff were helpful and friendly. Complimentary breakfast at the restaurant was just right.Special note: mom and dad of the young man (15ish) that was helpful at check in, you did good! Thanks for a peaceful, restful night. This is definitely a place to stop again!!

I'll share this from a Truckers perspective:1. Parking - There is always truck parking no matter the time of day or night.2. Bathrooms - Have always been clean every time I've been here.3. C Store - Normal, not a lot of options.4. Has a motel. I can't comment on it because I haven't stayed in it.5. Restaurant and bar - Restaurant has been good, not great, the couple times I've eaten there. I like the bison burger and country fried steak. However, the menu is overpriced and bland. Also, they are open until 2300, but only serve dinner until 2130. So, not great. Did I mention overpriced? Haven't drank at the bar so can't comment.6. Gift shop - A big tourist trap. There are some cool things, though, if you look hard enough.7. Huckleberry ice cream - Awesome! This is the reason I stop here. Very good.8. Has a small casino if you're into that. So, it has some good stuff and whatever stuff. I'll come back for the ice cream and parking.

Always a 5 Star experience, but this time they didn’t have any silver jewelry. They have tons of great jewelry options, used to have real silver rings, but stopped carrying them for some reason?I’ve stopped here a few times along the drive from WA/ID to Montana. Right next to the Inn is a diner, gift shop, and tons of cool things to see. For sure, something for all members of the family to enjoy. (Or any solo traveler of course! 😊)Go find out why it’s called 50,000 Silver Dollar and you won’t be disappointed! Kidding, I’m sure someone has already posted pictures about the main attraction 🤷🏻‍♀️ Or the establishment has…😂 I haven’t looked. Just wanna show our support!

PNW & Beyond — Google review

We didn't stay at the inn but we visited the shop!So much fun, there's definitely something for everyone of all ages and interests to enjoy. We easily spent 2 hours there just looking and browsing. The stickers and mugs were my weakness. My kids each got a keepsake and a sticker for our car.10/10 recommend stopping if you're in the area

We’ve stopped here at the RV campground a few times on the way through. RV electrical hookups are free, 50-amp and 30-amp. No water or sewer, but what else do you expect for free? Great gift shop and restaurant. Very clean restrooms and they’re happy to fill up water bottles. Sure it’s a bit of a tourist trap, but a great place to take a break.

Michael Molnar — Google review

The 50,000 Silver Dollar Inn is a truly unique and quirky destination that captures the imagination of anyone who visits. Located in Beatty, Nevada, this roadside attraction boasts an astounding collection of silver dollars adorning its walls, ceilings, and every available surface. It's a visual spectacle that leaves a lasting impression. Apart from the coin-themed decor, the 50,000 Silver Dollar Inn also offers lodging, a restaurant, and a gift shop. While the inn may not be a luxurious destination, it's a remarkable stop for those seeking an offbeat experience and a glimpse into a world of numismatic wonder. The 50,000 Silver Dollar Inn is a testament to the enduring allure of the American roadside attraction.

Perfect spot to stretch your legs, get a bite to eat, maybe gift shop. And even let your dog out for a stretch. The people that work there are very friendly. The black lab hanging out loves a little scratching.

Clean, quiet rooms, great restaurant & Casino! I thoroughly enjoyed the huge gift shop with all those Tomahawks! I also enjoyed winning at the casino here! Nice people. Fun place! Cannot wait to come back!

Very nice and cozy motel. Spotless rooms with nice showers. The desk staff was very polite and informative. The restaurant serves a very nice breakfast. The portion is far better than any other restaurant. Very clean and quiet environment. Souvenir shop has a lot of interesting collection for all the age groups. This place has a very big parking lot, especially for the big rig. Easy in and easy out.

Absolutely love this place, everyone is so friendly and helpful 😊 we stop here a few times a year and even go out of our way to stop in and have a drink and pop into the store to see the new things they have. The hotel has great rooms, and complimentary breakfast with your stay that is actually a filling breakfast and tasty. Definitely stop in if your passing through 😁

I love stopping here whenever I travel I-90. The rooms are clean and the price is right. It's the perfect stop right off the freeway. Everyone is really friendly. Gas station is right there, plus a pretty good restaurant with a decent sized menu, and a gift shop that you have to see to believe!

Randal G — Google review

We come here all the time when visiting family. This is our usual stop. Today was not it's best day. The bathrooms smelled awful, and the baby station was not sanitary. The food was nor up to par. The fish tacos are meant to be an appetizer, why do they come with their own side? They're enough for a full meal. The burger was more greasy then usual and although our waiter was pleasant, who ever that old blonde woman running the counter is from new jersey needs to be kept away from customers. Very rude and had the audacity to try an explain what she perceives as normal to someone born and raised in the area and whose traveled the world instead of just remedying an misunderstood order. It hindered my appetite hearing her condescending tone towards my husband who frankly, our classes her in every possible way when he was informing her how he wanted his food in its original way. If she isn't cultured then at least have the humbleness to learn. We'll still come back but we will be avoiding her for service.

I've always stopped here for gas on motorcycle trips. First time staying here and it was absolutely lovely. Front desk was very welcoming as we arrived. Smooth check in. Quiet rooms and comfy beds...what more can you ask for after a long day o the road. Complimentary breakfast was great. Don't forget to browse the gift shop too.

I love stopping here. The staff is always friendly and very attentive. We tried the elk burger, which was very good. I love the gift store. So much variety of everything you can imagine and then some.

I was driving through. Nice restaurant and huge gift shop. Trucks need to park at the west end near the convenience store. It had a good selection of items and the staff was friendly

Favorite stop on I-90 towards Missoula i highly recommend stopping here to get some gas, go to the gift shop get some food. If you like Western style stuff this is the place for you

This place is awesome we stop here every time we come to Montana! Super cool shop with good drinks and fair prices. Played the slots a bit, super fun. The service was fast and friendly, over all really glad we stopped.

Loren Burner — Google review

For some reason, I thought this Bar/Gift shop/Restaurant was going to be much better than it was.I ordered a burger, fries, and a shake to go which was delicious, but at around $30 it was extremely over priced. The slots at the bar were ridiculously tight. I Spent $200 and was only rewarded with 3 bonuses, one was about $8, one was $2, and one was about $35. Which is terrible considering I was playing at $1.20 a spin. Don't waste your cash here, save it for something other than a dive bar.If you really have to get something to eat and can afford to pay about 3 times more than what you're used to, then go for it.

Stopped in at ate lunch at the diner inside the 50k I ordered the bison burger and found it more then enough to fill me up, the people here are all friendly and the 50k is a very welcoming place

I parked my truck care for the night there was plenty of space and parking. I eat food at the restaurant. The server was very friendly, and the service was good. The food was ok.Diner was clean. The diner was also attached to a storm that sold a lot of souvenirs. There are also a bunch of silver dollar coins on the wall, it is very interesting.

Thomas McGahuey — Google review

We love stopping here on our trips to/from WA and Kalispell for quirky souvenirs and snacks. We let our toddler run around and look at all the toys. We ordered from the cafe this last time and it took forever for pretty simple burger sliders and a grilled cheese. The food was alright, to be expected. Clean restrooms.

Sometimes I feel like I'm in this shop more than I am my own house. It's my pre-designated rest area on my drive from Seattle to Montana. The top off my gas tank I go inside and grab some snacks and I often find some souvenirs to give to friends. And yes the Huckleberry milkshakes are amazing but there's so much more to the shop. Clean restrooms food options for there or to go.

Cynthia Freese — Google review

Loved it, as always! The gift shop is full of awesome things. I found this one sign that had me cracking up laughing. We also stopped at the food place their and I got chicken strips. Four GINORMOUS chicken strips with a bunch of fries. Needless to say, I got a to go box. It was amazing, and the chocolate shake I got was delicious as well. My mom said the lobster bisque, which was the special, was very good as well.

Chloe Richardson — Google review

Absolutely a point of interest to stop and shop. Not into shakes but they have a lot of flavors. Their fudge counter and selection as well as coffee mug options were outstanding. So much clothing and great cool hats.Other oddities in food and home decor.

Can we talk for a second about how cool this place was? There is a tank full of trout for my kids to gawk at.The huckleberry shakes were out of this world.I could have spent all day at the adorable gift shop....and gourmet flavored cotton candy??? Need I say more?

Cirena Evenson — Google review

Coolest all in one gift shop I’ve seen in Montana! Did not try the best shake ever this time but plan on stopping next drive through! Lots of souvenirs and gifts for everyone. The trout aquarium is awesome to get an up close look and the 360 aquarium is so fun for the kids!

It is hard to drive past the travel center as they have posted dozens of billboards along the way, letting you know that it's 50 miles, 40 miles, 10 miles, etc. So with the advertising pulling me in, I stopped here. I was able to resist the siren call of the huckleberry shakes.Lots of interesting shopping with many local mementoes and hand-made art for sale. Thankfully, the restrooms were clean and the wifi worked okay for a bit. I didn't manage to find anywhere to plug in and charge my phone but that wasn't the reason I stopped.

Bruce K. — Google review

Great place to stop when your on the road. Wide variety of items in gift shop and convenience store. Haven’t eaten there or had a shake. Staff always very friendly and make sure everyone is taken care of. Very busy in the summer months, gets a little hectic around there, but it’s a great positive atmosphere. Seems like I always run in to someone I know.

Deanna Smith — Google review

Best gas station stop ever. I was here 2 weeks ago and had to stop by again. Literally the best huckleberry shake I have had. Plenty of real berries, not just flavoring. Well worth the stop

Chris — Google review

Listen, the bottom line is Hucks Grill isn't worth the money. The shake tastes adequate, so does the signature burger, but they are absolutely not worth what they charge you. Until they drop their prices I won't be returning.

Jared Benson — Google review

Always a fantastic stop if you’re heading into Montana. Really delicious food and the huckleberry milkshakes are the best I’ve ever had:)

Sanchez Perez — Google review

Home of the “Best Huckleberry Shake” certainly lived up to the name. The gas station-eatery-coffee shop-icecream shop also has shopping Montana items. And, it also has a play area complete with a dogpark!Clean bathrooms, friendly staff, huge collection of travel friendly packages food. Plus huckleberry everything! Very interesting store indeed. Good parking at the back. Gas pumps are many with enough space for RVs.

B Biswas — Google review

WOW Daughter suggested we stop on our way to Washington. Said they make the best Huckleberrie milkshakes. Signs along highway also reminding me of that. The pumps were very busy and lots of people walking around outside. Friday around 1 on a long weekend. Saw the spot to order the takeout orders and walked up and was served right away. Friendly service and fast. Ordered a huckleberry milkshake. Lots of berrys and topped off with whip cream. The hamburger was cooked just right with a huckleberry sauce on top of the cheese along with the greenest lettuce. Two slices of perfect tomatoes. Topped off with two slices of tasty pickles. The fries were hot and fried just right. The hot dawg was grilled and was a treat for daughters dog kids. As I was waiting they gave me a round circle that lights up and vibrates when order is ready. Went to washroom and walked around the shopping area. Lots of really neat things. Fudge, more ice cream and gifts. Clothes and funky slippers. Pretty soon the circle was vibrating and went to the pickup window. They prepared milkshake right away. Heaven awaits u first pull from straw. Got out too vehicle and desided to leave heading west about a mile turned off of highway to a spot beside river. Only a truck with two people parked. Daughter got out and took her yorkies for a cool down at river and a potty break. There is a doggy park across street from Travel Centre but with the little male and teacup yorkie desided to save the other dogs from all the noise. Really good idea. The travel centre was very clean and had lots of staff to help with your purchases. The next time driving by will be a definite stop. Deserves more stars to make up for the ones that gave hardly any stars.

Down-to-earth hotel featuring a spa & hot springs pools, plus a restaurant & an espresso bar.

Old basic hotel in a hippy town. If you like places out of the past, then you will love this. Picture a hotel room out of the old western TV shows. People are great. Inside tubs and 4 pools outside, one a large warm swimming pool. Live Music on weekends sometimes with dancing. Food service varies but there is usually soup available in small lobby where you will share a table or newspaper in your bathing suit or bathrobe. Love it or not, you will be in the center of times past.

I made a reservation a month in advance, when my party arrived they said I had cancelled my reservation and had no vacancy. I explained I didn’t cancel it and if I did why did I drive 2 hours to check in. They use index cards for their registrations and apparently didn’t verify any information before cancelling the reservation. They didn’t apologize or offer compensation. I have been going there every year for 29+ years. I will not return. The place is more run down and over crowed. We like to give to the small town of hot springs unfortunately we won’t any longer.

Bren E — Google review

I so wish I could give this place a better review, but want others to know about staying here.I had a good experience making reservations. I did read the reviews and wasn't scared by the ones complaining about the smell (mineral hot springs sometimes smell like rotten eggs), or even the age of the facilities. I'm a Montanan and am no stranger to older lodging and less modern amenities. We were a little put off by the fact it is smack dab in the middle of town. We were further dismayed by the actual appliance junkyard we had to drive by to get to our cabin. The cabin was what we expected. The first night we tried to go to the pools and they were full. It seemed like the people were mostly in one party and there wasn't a comfortable place in either if the hot pools to sit. I was a little annoyed that I wasn't told there was such a big group when I made reservations. We decided to make the best of it and stayed in and played games. The town of Hot Springs is mostly full of good people. I mentioned the full pools to some people in town and most of them said the people were probably employees and their friends. We did go soak after coffee. It was fine except some regular soakers were a bit... odd....and continued to try and engage us in conversations that weren't appropriate or comfortable. We went to soak again at night. There were a few people who were employees. One of them kept yelling to another one to let his dog out of his van. Several loose dogs were running around the outside of the pool enclosure while their people tried to manage them from the pools. Not exactly relaxing. We also love dogs and brought ours but walked them away from the pools just like the sign said...One of the reviews mentioned it being creepy and having many creepy people around and I have to agree. I've traveled all over alone - nearly every large city in the country- and I would never come here as a solo female traveler. It's possible that the owners only want locals. And they must because as full-price paying customers, we were not acknowledged, and hospitality is not even a word that's known here.I suggest waiting and paying more at Quinn's or Chico or Fairmont. That's certainly what we will do.

Leslie Oneill — Google review

The best natural hot spring water. We’ve been enjoying the healing water for over 3 years and it’s a pleasant soak every time we visit. There are optional private tubs inside the hotel when outdoor pools are busy.

Liliya — Google review

I believe this is my first time giving 1 Star! Eeesh, so this was an experience to say the least. And no I am not uppity or was expecting a spa like experience or anything. I was expecting clean, and didn’t get that.I guess this place has been around forever and is sort of a local institution. I’m not sure what kind of codes a hotel / hot springs has to pass when it’s a commercial place like this but I cannot imagine it passes.First off, when you walk into the hotel lobby it’s filthy and people are traipsing through with bare feet, dripping bathing suits, and some just sitting in the lobby like that. The only way to and from the pools is through the lobby to the outside. So the salt and grime is getting tracked in too. Then you proceed into the changing area and walk along sopping wet carpet that was probably laid when the place was built. There’s several stalls with grimy bathtubs and rusty pipes. This is where you can bathe or rinse off after the outdoor pools. Proceed along and you’ll find change rooms that have one bathroom stall and one shower stall to service the many people waiting around. The place doesn’t look like it gets cleaned more than once a day if that. It’s crowded and there’s no limit to how many people can pack in anywhere.Make your way back out to the lobby to the pools across the parking lot and they are filthy. Don’t sit near an intake filter or you’ll just spend your time watching hair and scrum flow in and out of the pool. The top pool is the hottest and cleanest but even that was not clean, and it’s very small. The source pool is across the grass and mud to a hut and it’s the hottest of course but the size of a bathtub. It probably didn’t help that a few days earlier we’d been at a very clean and well arranged hotel / hot spring so in comparison this was pretty atrocious. But seriously it’s been 2 months and we still talk about it!Oh well, we enjoyed a good laugh with friends and will never forget the experience!

Justin & Emily Panasuik — Google review

My family and I come here on a weekly basis. We luv the private baths and jacuzzi room. All though no fault of their own, other guests children should be taught that it's for relaxing. 🤗

Jasmine Parker — Google review

We just went to soak but the staff was great, the water hot. There are 3 pools each cooler than the last. Kid and pet friendly. They also have private claw foot tubs to soak in as well.

Debi Gingras — Google review

Phenomenal experience once again and I have been going to the Symes through out the years and I shall never tire of the trip to get there. The moment I drive in to the parking lot I am already unwinding. As usual I'm always find something new about the Symes and it's historical past.

Debra Phillips — Google review

We only live about an hour away, but still love to come here to get away. It's a bit more rustic and vintage than most, but we like it. Some of the cabins aren't as upgraded, but if you like the old original vintage that's great. Plus they are more private. The apartments are great, roomy, full kitchens as well, and they have a front porch area. We've stayed with and without kids, in rooms and in cabins, it's very accommodating. There is a diner in the hotel, or you can walk downtown. Our next stay will be in one of the bigger cabins with the family. If you go onto their website they have a list of rooms and cabins with specific features and prices on each. They really are all very different. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

Crystal Perry — Google review

***edit****My family and I went to do a last minute soaked normally the pools are ok….. the pools were completely packed with a lot of kids which I normally don’t care but they were being loud and splashing. Not very relaxing and the pools were not HOT! After looking in the water I realized they were not very clean. And a lot of stuff floating in the water. We were there for about 15 minutes and left. With all the money they make I don’t know why they try to make the place better. They can do better this place isn’t the same place it was 5 years ago and it’s sad. One of my favorite places isn’t my favorite any moreThe rooms are completely out of date and dirty and falling apart. The beds and couches were from the 80s and just plain dirty. I felt like I would get bed bugs there. (No I didn’t ) the pools are nice but for the amount we paid it should be better rooms. I will never stay there again. There is way better places in town for the same price if not cheaper. Go visit the pools, stay somewhere else.

Tanya Hertz — Google review

Pools are great, people are friendly and the bed was comfortable. Hotel is as described, straight out of the 40s, as is the town. Rooms are dated but clean. Couple of heads up, no Verizon wireless service in town, just At&t. Also Wi-Fi is available but you have to go to the main lobby to get it. There is a lounge with comfy chairs and fireplace so not a big issue. Will be back

Ron Kidder — Google review

Good: Great location, close to downtown food & drinks, room was spacious & clean, and the awesome bed/ mattress. Large LED TV with Dish service... fridge & microwaveBad: lots of people crouded into a small soaking tub with kids spashing around, not a place to just relax... tub in the room didn't have enough hot water available to use either...Reservation was confirmed but wrong at chek-in... for the price, we'll look at other options next time...

Keith miles — Google review

Definitely a A-OK stay. Free coffee and TV, dogs could be let in the hotel lobby. Water was very relaxing. The downside to the hot springs was the lower tub was turning green by the half hour. Food was delicious too!

CashiiX — Google review

Old building. The hotel room had a bathroom and bathtub. Bathtub still had a wet towel in it when we checked in. Wifi is super spotty. ALL the water smells and tastes like egg water. The so-called hot spring at this place is nothing more than a glorified hot tub. Would not recommend.

Ivan — Google review

What a fun experience! The water was HOT and my skin felt so smooth afterward! We didn’t do the private soaking tub but I took a pic! Would be a cool experience.

Hanna Harrison — Google review

Upon first arriving my mom and I joked about it being a hostel murder movie scene. It didn’t get much better when walking into the building. The hallways aren’t well lit. The walls need fixed. The local addicts hang out in the mineral pool from the second they open till the second they close. The hot pool is always packed and it didn’t seem any of the water was really filtered. There were small rocks thrown in the big pool and leaves and sediment floating in the water. I understand it is a historical building and is very old but it doesn’t seem like it could possibly be up to code. The town of hot springs itself is a very beautiful town though. Lots of great scenery and wildlife throughout. If I ever come back to the Hot Springs area I will find different sleeping accommodations.

Michelle Phay — Google review

No parking for guests staying at the hotel, we had to park on the street. Check-in was horrible. The woman at the desk did not provide us with any directions to our room, pool hours, and no information whatsoever concerning our stay. When asked where to find our room she gave simple directions with a rather curt attitude. When asked about what time the kids in the pool usually clear out she was rude and said when it closes. I had to ask for my key when she didn't remember who we were upon check-in after 10 minutes of waiting for our room to be cleaned. She was friendly to family guests versus those who are kidless which is rather biased and we were there for a romantic evening. Will not be staying here again nor coming to use the pools again.

Amanda Castor — Google review

Went with 7 girls for a bachelorette trip on a Friday- Sunday. Started with losing a reservation, but they had a way to accommodate us. Checked in and found out there wasn’t any hot water in the apartment, which was fine with us as we had a cabin for Friday night that had hot water. The pools were way over crowded and not the clean blue water that you see on their website so we didn’t get in. Saturday morning there was a massive water leak in the apartment coming through the ceiling into the living room. Couch and chair had to be removed and a shampooer was needed to remove the water off the floor. We were planning to stick it out until they moved us from cabin 5 to “R2”. Let’s just say that it was so bad that we were thinking we would just sleep in the car. Owner was VERY rude and told us we need to understand that it’s an old hotel. Apparently general cleanliness doesn’t come with old hotels. We got on air bnb and found a house with much better accommodations for the same price we paid for the 1 night at Symes.

Megan Burch — Google review

Cabin was absolutely disgusting!!! Had a junk yard to drive through just to get to our "private newly renovated cabin." Once we got to our cabin i walked through and immediately found; food left in microwave, oven never cleaned, dust bunny colony under bed, soap and other substances dripping from shower windowsill, this is just to start. People soliciting for drugs in tubs and around the property, man claiming to be the attendants husband lingering and rude in the lobby. Restaurant food was burnt and dry. People drunk and fighting around the premises. I can't describe how gross this place is and they were excited for the "newly renovated cabin" we were in so we shouldn't "have any issues." (I had picture proof and nothing was done about it!!!)We won't be back and highly recommend shutting down and cleaning this place up in sooo many ways!!!

Megan Williams — Google review

Our experience at Symes was not so great. We booked this trip in advance for a bachelorette party. We woke up Saturday morning to a huge leak in the ceiling . The response we got from the owner was “you have to understand this is an old hotel”. Although they cleaned it up, they could have compensated us for what we woke up to. Completely ruining our morning. Please do not stay here. Not worth the money.

It was my first time visiting Symes and will come back again. The Hotel is very dated with lots of historical touches. Don't go expecting luxury but instead a trip back in time. It feels a bit like you're in an old western movie. The place is about as clean as it can be for the age and lack of upgrades. However it's very charming and once you acclimate to your surroundings you get into the groove. The pools are nice and hot. The pools can vary in the number of guests who are soaking at any one time. We never felt like it was too crowded. The town of Hotsprings is also historic and has some fun gems to discover. It's worth walking around to explore. It's a poor community and it shows but go there with an open mind and you will enjoy it much better.

If I could give a zero strar I would. Very dirty pools they clean pools once a week. Very overcrowded. All of my family smelt like a condom after soaking will NEVER go here again.

This has been one of the best rafting trips we've ever taken. We did the Whitewater with Wine option, which was a 4 to 5 hour experience. Our guide, Holli, was spectacular - a fantastic navigator who maximized the fun while keeping us safe and entertained. The rapids were thrilling, the views incredible, and the lunch (and later, the wine) really were spot on. We'd do this trip again in a heartbeat!

Wayne Thornes — Google review

Absolutely incredible time! We had our wedding in superior Montana. We wanted to find an activity that the entire wedding party could do together, and Pangea accommodated us not only for the white water rafting, but for the wine float as well. Our instructors were so much fun! Amazing location, staff, equipment. Ect thank you!

We had an amazing time! took my wife out on her 1st Whitewater raft trip. Our guide Paul was amazing and made a very pleasurable experience we will be back!

Jon Giovani — Google review

It was my first time doing this and the guides were absolutely amazing. We were a party of 14 too. Alex was my guide and I love her. She was a wealth of knowledge and I think she made the trip what it was.

Thank you to the awesome group at Pangaea River Rafting and especially our fantastic guide Holly for an incredibly fun trip (and delicious lunch!)

Honestly, the most fun we have had with any Whitewater rafting company. Highly recommend this! We took the full day Raft with a lunch.

Tessa was awesome. Had a great time during our July 1st outing with family. Everything was real friendly and the event was slow, casual and still a ton of fun. Thank you!

Our Pangea rafting trip was fantastic! We loved our guide, company owner Brooke, who told us so much about the stretch of river we traveled through. She provided a delicious lunch and took great care of our group. Pangea is the best rafting company in the Missoula area, and we look forward to our next excursion.

We had a great 2 days on the river with Montana River Guides. Mike, Caleb, Amy and Squid were amazing guides for our Rafting and River Boarding trips. They are not only professional and focus on safety, but are insanely fun people too.And if you have done White Water Rafting and want to take your adventure to the next level, River Boarding is amazingly fun, and these guys will get you down the river in ways you've never imagined.Go to Montana and meet this team, they rock!

We had an outstanding time on our trip this past week. River and Katie did an excellent job guiding us in what to do and providing history and information along the way. The scenery was beautiful. We stopped for dinner along the river and the food was delicious! Would definitely recommend Montana River Guides to anyone looking for a fun filled day!

Our Montana River Guide trip down the Clark Fork was the highlight to our Montana vacation. Our guide let us paddle some while we were going thru the rapids which was an awesome experience. Weather and sun on the morning trip made for some great pictures.

Theresa Beal — Google review

My family and I had an epic time rafting the Clark Fork river with Montana River Guides today. Our guide Caleb (pictured below) made sure we had a fun and memorable time blasting through gnarly rapids, relaxing on the lazy flats, and cliff-jumping into the river. The scenery is second to none and there a lot of eagles and ospreys flying around. The lunch provided was delish (except for the rasberry-lime sparkling water—yuck). Lunch consisted of a bacon and turkey wrap, chips, a drink, and a cookie. This was also a great trip for older children and adults. If you’re ever in Missoula during rafting season, book a trip with Montana River Guides.

What a fabulous morning was had by 6 ladies, 5 that had not gone floating before. Richard our guide was so kind and interesting that it made the experience even better. We are a group of ladies, friends from high school who get together each year to experience something new, chat, relax and just enjoy each other. Richard made this experience extra special and we are thankful to him. Thank you Montana River Guides for a memorable morning and experience.

We have taken many rafting trips over the years and hands down this was one of the best ones yet!!! We took a private full day rafting tour with river side picnic and couldn’t have had a better time!! Our guide set up the best lunch spread at the waterside including fresh fruit and veggie trays, salad, sandwiches, chips/salsa, and the best homemade cookies!!! We had many stops, chances to swim, small cliff jumping, and the most beautiful scenery!!! Shout out to Amy as being the most fun guide to our crazy “Billy Goat Cyrus” group from Texas!!! Request her and you won’t be disappointed!!!

Amazing guides, super fun times on the river, highly recommend!!We just spent 2 days on the river with Montana River Guides & we couldn’t be happier about our experience!Day 1 did a rafting trip down the river. Aimee & Quaid were the most fun & friendly guides for our adventure, filling the trip with excitement, guidance & plenty of jokes!Day 2 we went for some river boarding! What a fun & immersive way to experience the river! This was a completely new experience for most of us and with Mike & Caleb as our guides we were in the best hands. They lead us safely through & did such a great job explaining how the river flows and what to watch for. We had a blast going head first through all the rapids & gliding along! Can’t say enough good things about the 2 days & our guides! Can’t wait to come back & hit the river with them again!

All my summer visitors get a rafting trip on the Gorge with Montana River Guides, and they all say it was the highlight of their visit. In 15 years, I've never had a bad trip! What impresses me most are the awesome people skills of the guides: they can manage a raft with young kids, a grandmother, and Eastern 'dudes' (the ones who don't want to keep their feet tucked), and turn us into a high-oars team before we hit the first rapids (we were the "Ice Cream Eagles"). I'm already recruiting unsuspecting family for next summer.

One of the best experience in the US was spending our Sunday with Montana River Guides! The crew was able to accommodate to over 60 of us on the YSEALI alumni tour and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our time on the river - Whitewater Rafting or Scenic Tour. Guides are 100% professionals who have fun with safety in mind. Highly recommend and must visit when you're in Montana. Thanks for the memories!

We did a scenic float with our young kids. This was the absolute best thing we did our whole trip! So beautiful, so much fun. Amy was our guide and she was incredibly fun, knowledgable and kind. Cannot wait to float with them again!

Kirsten Black — Google review

There were three of us over 60 year old gals on our trip. Our guide, Jack, was outstanding. We felt safe and secure under his care the whole time while having the time of our lives. The beautiful scenery and wildlife were a bonus to the incredible river with its rapids along with calm areas to relax & enjoy the ride. Top on my list of the other incredible things we did this summer.

My girls and I had an amazing time on a full day float with our guide Lane. Lots to see between rapids and Lane was on top of it all. The lunch stop is perfectly timed and make sure you take a dip in Fish Creek to cool off. Overall, the best company to go with rafting with. TJ and the rest of the guides were really helpful as we got suited up. You can’t go wrong with Montana River Guides! (Photo by Montana River Photography)

Wildlife refuge

Nature & Parks

Nature & Wildlife Areas

The Bison Range Wildlife Refuge is a vast native prairie land that serves as a sanctuary for various wildlife species in Montana. Visitors can enjoy viewing bison, elk, pronghorn, deer, and mountain sheep up close through the 19-mile long Red Sleep Mountain Drive loop road. A visitor center and several trails are also available for exploration. Non-tribal members are required to pay an admission fee of around $15-20 per car to drive around the area.

Unbelievably cool place to go to see bison and just about every other species of wildlife Montana has to offer. I would definitely talk to the people of the visitor sent her first to see which direction you should take first because the park is fairly large. Highly recommended!

Rob Birdwell — Google review

Visiting the National Bison Range was an unforgettable experience. The sprawling landscapes and the majestic sight of bison roaming freely were awe-inspiring. The well-maintained facilities and informative visitor center provided great insights into the history and ecology of the area. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, enhancing our visit with fascinating stories and facts. The opportunity for wildlife photography was exceptional, with not just bison but also deer, elk, and various bird species. This visit was educational, serene, and visually stunning, a must-see for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Alexander Olson — Google review

Beautiful drive and you get to get right up close to the Bison! We also saw white tailed deer and cows during our trip there. Gorgeous views of the mountains, and you even drive by a charming creek for a bit.

Liz — Google review

We are full time RV travelers and met our good friends in Thompson Falls. They took us to the Bison Range. It is well worth the hour and half drive through the range. You can stop and just view the bison and elk roaming free. Majestic animals are best when they are free. We saw Elk, Bison, a deer with a little doe. and Antelope in the distance. The employees are very nice and will answer any questions you have.

William Olson — Google review

This was one of the best places to go on our Montana trip! Breathtaking views, and it was so nice to see the bison herds! The museum was very informative, as I am a tourist and had no idea about the history of the area. I am very happy to see that the local tribes have taken over management of this land and the bison herds. Staff at the visitor were helpful and nice.

Beatriz L — Google review

Enjoyed a leisurely drive on the longer of the two loops through the Bison Range, beginning about 1:30pm. $20/car. Just a few sightings on the first half, but a few gatherings of bison towards the end of the almost 2-hour drive. No getting out of the car. First section was a one-way road, then it was divided, though no visible markers. Just the kind staff gentleman who was making rounds backed up to inform us.A pleasant way to see the bison. Saw a few deer as well, but no elk on our afternoon trek.Highly recommend if you’ve never seen these beautiful creatures outside a zoo.

Sue Martindale — Google review

The Bison Range is such a good place to go when you’re looking for wild life and if enjoy slow steady rides in the out doors. Many bison, antelope, elk, and eagles. Non tribal members pay a fee to drive around, usually $15-20 a car. Worth the money.

Trinity O?rien carpentier — Google review

Stunning views of Montana as you drive through a preserve and see herds of bison and deer. Strongly suggest taking the high road as the views are spectacular.

BezikP51 — Google review

1) If you're really afraid of heights it might not be for you . It's a steep (at times) ride up a mountain 2) you'll definitely need a car wash afterwards. 3) it's a gravel road, so if you're picky about your car......4) It's INCREDIBLE! WORTH my fear of heights and we saw plenty of bison and an elk. Do it!

Lisa — Google review

what an excellent place to go, this place is very well-maintained. The price was very reasonable, and just $10 per car. We had a great time we took the hour long drive, and we were able to see Buffalo, some elk, and pronghorn antelope. It was really cool just to see them pop up out of nowhere. The terrain is beautiful and it is well worth the time and effort it took to find this place. You will not regret driving out here, it is just a real special place.

Josh B — Google review

Stop at the visitor center for $10 admission, and spend some time with the exhibits. Important history lessons. On the drive are gorgeous views! Saw snakes, birds, bison, elk, deer, and antelope. SO worth the 2 hour drive for us to get there. Take the long loop - you won't regret it!

Barbara V. — Google review

The first time I went was in fall and the Elk were bugling, which was awesome to see/hear. Both times I've been back, the bison have been pretty close. I've also seen antelope and deer, but have missed the big horn sheep. Love that this place belongs to CSKT now.

Diadra Goldes — Google review

Roads were not fully open because it is early in the season so I was a bit disappointed by that. But the place is beautiful, the Tribes have done good with it. Lots of nice picnic areas! A few short nature trails with lots of benches to sit on.

Will MacPheat — Google review

Love this place so much!! Sometimes it's hit and miss on how close the animals are and how many we see. It's amazing when they are up close to the cars, even seen a momma and baby bear one year. Totally recommend going with the family.

Ryanne Orton — Google review

The views are amazing! We got lucky and saw some bison upclose but most were far away. Make note that the loop takes about 2 hours so give yourself plenty of time. Definitely one of our favorite things we did in wy and mt!

A special place to visit for a moment of quiet reflection.Accessibility info and site description: There are several disabled parking spots available, but no protected van-accessible parking. (Turn into the property through the gate, the main parking area and public restroom will be to the right, continue driving straight to find the disabled parking area). The walking path is gravel, about the width of a sidewalk, with grass on either side. Near the entrance, there's a few pieces of wood that intersect the trail, coming up off the ground several inches (see photos). The trail is wider along the outer circle, and narrows as you follow the statues toward the center. At the center statue, there is a brick path, but this area was roped off when I visited in March 2022 (unsure if this is temporary). Without access to the brick path, there is only a very narrow dirt trail around this inner circle. There is an additional public restroom on the far side of the property near the pond and gift shop. There are no benches along the trails, or anywhere that I could see. The distance from the disabled parking area to the entrance of the Dharma wheel is around 350 feet, and another 200 feet to the center statue. I would estimate the total distance around the wheel to be about a quarter mile. There is no fee to visit, but they do accept donations. This is such a unique, interesting, and peaceful place and I have enjoyed my visits over the years! Just a heads up to fellow disabled visitors: the gravel path is really difficult to traverse in a wheelchair, there is no snow removal from the path so it may not be accessible until spring, and there are no benches.

Disabled in the Wild — Google review

Gorgeous place, thousands of mini statues. I felt like I was at peace with myself while walking around the park. So much peace, clean air, it feels like magic. Highly recommended!

Jonathan Sandi — Google review

Such a beautiful museum. A perfect space that represents Buddha in their eyes of peace and serenity outside. For people to gently learn with the scriptures that have been written on the rocks and understand the equivalent piece that has been portrayed here. Absolutely delightful

J Kusel — Google review

Beautiful stop! Staff was so friendly and respectful! Flowers were gorgeous and it was so incredible to look at all the statues and the gods they represent. The hill was quite the climb in flip flops while the sprinklers were going and I definitely got drenched hiking up but it was well worth the adventure!

The Thousand Buddha Temple is an absolute gem! The tranquil ambiance and stunning architecture create an enchanting atmosphere that transports you to a world of serenity and spiritual beauty. The sight of countless intricately carved Buddha statues is awe-inspiring and leaves you feeling a sense of peace and reverence. Exploring the temple grounds and taking in the panoramic views is a truly unforgettable experience. A must-visit for anyone seeking a moment of tranquility and a deeper connection with history and spirituality.

Visited January 2nd. Very long drive from Whitefish. I do not know what I think of this place and cannot decide if the drive was worth it or not. The toilets - both at the entrance and diagonally across are HORRIBLE. Do not go there if you can help it.The gardens themselves are extremely underwhelming. Is it because it is winter? But then again what happened to designing gardens for 4 seasons? Winter interest? But I appreciated the opportunity to learn about other faiths. For some reason, I hoped to see 1000 different Buddha statues. 10 pieces around the circle, it was clear the entire set is exactly the same... Again, I do not know how I feel. Maybe just don't go in the winter. Might try it again in a different season - may be.

Peaceful from sky above to the glorious Montana soil I walked while walking this high vibe spiritual space. Even though it's winter & all the foliage is dormant the beauty of the mountains, statues & structures brought such joy within my soul~

A must see for anyone if you're heading to glacier national park or near the area. This beautiful and vast hidden gem is surrounded by the view of the mountains in every direction. It is so peaceful and special here. The statues, plaques, quotes lead to contemplation, appreciation, and a sense of connectedness. An insurmountable sense of appreciation is inevitable here.

Breanna Plach — Google review

Interesting.... Peaceful. Buddhas set-up within a big circle. Nice walking path. Gift shop. Some additional sculptures, too.

Gaia Butterfly — Google review

Great stop if you're around the area, even in not so favorable weather. The grounds are so peaceful and clean. If it were nicer out the day I visited I'm sure I would have spent more time taking a more thoughtful walk rather than sort of hustling back to the warmth of my car. There are bathrooms available at the parking lot and a gift shop as well. No pets allowed on the grounds.

This was an amazingly beautiful and peaceful place in the Middle of Nowhere, Montana featuring so many beautiful works of art, a koi pond, prayer flag mound, and a gift shop featuring water, prayer flags, little statues of Buddha, etc all VERY reasonably priced. The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the conservation and preservation of elk and their natural habitat. The RMEF has a well-designed visitor center with interactive exhibits that are suitable for children. The exhibits showcase the story of elks and their environment, while a nature trail provides an opportunity to explore the surroundings. Additionally, the RMEF regularly hosts events for families and kids, which are professionally organized.

Wonderful place to check out while you're in the area! Besides being an important conservation group, the RMEF has a great visitor center that anyone can enjoy. They routinely have events for kids and families, which are always highly organized and professional. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the facilities are always clean and beautiful.Besides visiting, I'd also encourage you to look at becoming a member.

Amazingly wonderful place to learn about the local elk and their habit. It is free to get in and look around. There are great walking paths on the property that are also free to use. There is a small shop, but its only focus is on men with nothing for women or children. Prior to their remodel, the whole place was more family friendly in the activities as well as the shop.

Stephanie Watts — Google review

Elk Foundation Headquarters no longer worth a visit. With a big fence around it now not really a very welcoming place. Maybe there motto is "Welcome to Montana, now please leave." Nothing like an organization that pleads and whines to protect elk population and habitat only to roll up the carpet for the locals. Great example of a Missoula "citizen."

Susan Andrews — Google review

The Montana Elk Foundation continues to support the torture of animals, theft of pets and violation of fair-chase standards by providing funds and lobbying for trappers who represent a tiny fraction of the population. Their good work to preserve elk habitat is stained by catering to those who think torturing animals for profit and “fun” is a good thing.

Barry Dutton — Google review

Loved it. We went to visit on way through Montana, but it was closed. We ate out lunch on their back patio anyway.

Incredible display of high-scoring elk and a nice variety of other taxidermy animals. Great gift shop and really nice staff. Doesn't take much time to go through the displays. Great for families. Highly recommend!

Well worth a visit. The only thing missing are live elk. The displays are very well done. Just about any question you have about elk can be answered here.

We were a party of 7 with my 3 younger granddaughters. We all loved the exhibits and the waking path. Read the plaques under the mounts, absolutely fascinating. Being 15 - 20yds from a male elk with a bow must be an experience of a lifetime.

A Carousel for Missoula is a beloved local attraction that features a hand-crafted carousel and hosts frequent community events. Additionally, the site boasts an outdoor playground called Dragons Hollow, which is perfect for families with children. Despite recent concerns about mask-wearing for kids, many visitors still enjoy the facility's open-air environment amidst the heat. Overall, A Carousel for Missoula offers a unique and magical experience on the edge of Clark Fork River that appeals to all ages.

Very cool space on the edge of the Clark Fork River. Just went to check it out as a volunteer army hand-carved the beautiful horses and dragons. Great place to take kids with a cool playground outside called the Dragon’s Hollow.

Super fun experience for me and the kids. So much fun and laughter. Staff is friendly and nice. Not a long wait and the carousel goes fast. I loved it!!!

shellyn dugar — Google review

Just plain fun, take your kids there, $1 a ride for kids $2 for the big kids

Mike Nielsen — Google review

It was so much fun! The carousel went pretty fast. My two daughters and I pulled plastic rings from a dragons nose as we were going around. It was challenging to grab a ring but we got all of them. The last ring is brass and whoever gets it, gets a free ride! I'm in my late 60's and felt like a kid again, riding a horse on a carousel. We laughed so much and rode the carousel a couple of times. The elderly (older than I) gentleman that was in charge, told us that a 97 year old woman got on a horse last month. She holds the record. It's for all ages and you are never too old to ride a carousel. Cute little gift shop. Friendly and fun staff there. A great experience and a must do if you are visiting Missoula, Montana.

Not only is this the best carousel experience for kids, but adults have fun too, with the brass ring game. And the employees are genuinely all amazing. Every time we go, which seems to be weekly, we meet someone new who makes the ride that much more enjoyable.

Also the Dragon rings really give it it's own unique twist to a carousel that will have your kids wanting to ride over and over. Also prices are very reasonable and the playground next door is awesome!

Josh Demers — Google review

Just had my daughter Quinn's 11th Birthday party here, and it was great. For a small price we could invite up to 12 people to ride the Carousel for free and use of a party room for an hour and 15 minutes. Would definitely hold a party here again. My daughter has always loved the Carousel, her favorite horse is Paint.

Great place to take the Kids or hold a kid's party. It endless fun and the staff are extremely kind, patient and compassionate about helping the kids on and off the horses and with seatbelts. The gift shop is stocked with affordable little kid's snacks. There is a wonderful park attached to the location.

We come here for our daughter’s birthday every year and it’s magical. This year we came on a Saturday and even though it was busy, we still barely had to wait to get on. The attendant saw our daughter’s pretty dress and asked if it was her birthday. Then he announced her by name over the intercom and had everyone tell her happy birthday. People even came up to her later and gave her their unused tokens so she could ride over and over. It was the highlight of her entire birthday week, and ours too. We found out later the man’s name is Jeff, and we’d like to thank him especially for making our daughter’s special day so incredible!

Kerstin McLean — Google review

A neat place to visit (even though I didn't ride). It's a very inviting place, friendly, knowledgeable staff and has history on a gigantic stone slab out front.Pricing seemed to be spot on with the area, and was seemingly not busy when we went midday. Overall a nice stop during our walk. Might even ride if I come back another time.

Lee — Google review

Kinda bummed the playground was closed.. very surprised they were pushing masks on children.. If they are going to do such a thing.. they should practice cleaning the facility instead... it's OUTSIDE anyways.. in heat.. it's kinda ridiculous.. kids had fun, but mine weren't going to put a mask on... but A child is telling me I needed to wear one?? It kinda ruins the experience...

Public university

Sights & Landmarks

The University of Montana, a research institution established in 1893, boasts of an expansive park-like campus with an iconic hillside "M." The atmosphere during night games is electric as students and the band cheer on their team, making the surrounding mountains ring with excitement. Despite lacking another video screen on the opposite end and not permitting beverages in seats, it remains a great place to watch a game. The campus itself is beautiful and steeped in history while still providing all modern amenities one may need.

After four years here, I can say that this is an amazing campus and worth spending time studying at. The faculty and staff are amazing, the grounds are beautiful, and there is always something to do or an event that is happening on campus. My favorite area is the Oval.

Isabelle Johnson — Google review

Subjectively, can't complain with the inherent beauty that permeates the area. Objectively, not yet a student so I have no insights on the affairs of the matter but am highly considering enrollment in an upcoming program.

Patrick Hoffman — Google review

Working construction at the university is always a challenge. Have to pay for parking for the whole crew. Nobody working construction likes to park off site as construction workers have much money tied up in tools etc. The university should let construction personnel park for free in a designated area. We appreciate the work we do at the university but probably one of the most challenging areas to work.

Jeff Jenne — Google review

I love this University. We went to the game last night. It looked packed and all the students and band made the surrounding mountains ring with cheers. Such a great atmosphere for a night game. Wish they had another video screen on the other end though. Also it would be great if you could have a beer in your seat. Still it was a great place to see a game.

sabrina bayha — Google review

Nice collage campus in a somewhat historical area. Easy walkabout or bike riding location. Many trails, although the "M" trail is a bit tough, other sections and river bridge to the old City near by. Hidden road trails on the back side on the "M" to car ride. Pet friendly area.

Arthur — Google review

Nice campus with lots of history. Small town feel with all the amenities needed in a modern Era.

Jason Boulle — Google review

Used to be a better school and used to have a lot more students. Now admission is dwindling. As is the new saying: "Go Woke, Go Broke". Liberal policies have been increasingly driving away students, and money, for a while now.

Davy Williams — Google review

The town is lovely. We visited en route to Glacier Park. Stayed at lovely Babs Historic Hotel. Although the energy in town is sad due to the ideology being instilled in the youth at the college. Posters and signs along hip hop strip are very left...."abortion for all", "pride tide", "entitled" noted graffiti, homeless, etc. Beliefs reflected in how a visitor is treated. Sad. City officials, college admin., business owners need to make improvements.

Teresa Heaton — Google review

No parking, locals are rude, and the place smelled like dope. No thanks

Beautiful refuge for walking on trails, viewing waterfowl, migrating birds, and a visitor center that has information and gifts. Picnic area and restrooms available.

Karen Peitsmeyer — Google review

This is my go-to place when I want to be more in touch with God and some of his wonderful creations! It is scenic, serene, the people whom work there are friendly and knowledgeable. Other visitors are nice and respectful. As a photographer, there is so much there. Nice walks, hikes, great scenery, and wildlife. Birds galore, deer, Bears. Great place for a family outing as well. Gonupntonthe visitor center of a walk to the river. If you are a birder, there are bird blinds all over. From Hummerbirds to Eagles, Ospreys, Hawks, Owls, Warblers, and so much more. Coyotes, Foxes, and even badgers. Look for Sanhill Cranes, Great Blue Herons, Pheasant and more. Beautiful sunrise and Sunset shots as well. Go to the big ponds and look at the numerous different waterfowl and then look up to the Heron rookery hi up in the ponds. A fantastic wonderland

Rick Paris — Google review

Great walk and a great spot to see some wildlife always friendly faces on the trails. It's good for kids or even older folks easy walk lots to see

Michael Barreca — Google review

Meh, the trail was ok, but a lot of the part was closed to public access. The trail from the visitor center is an out and back. Nice views with ducks, no shade which is great for a spring hike, but wouldn’t do during summer.

Steve Miller — Google review

Love it here. So beautiful. Can't wait for the pelicans to come

Marne Newton — Google review

This was the third time visiting the Lee Metcalf area and it was wonderful. I went to the visitor's center for the first time and received great info about the trails and types of birds I could expect to see. Fortunate to see Trumpeter swans, a Blue Heron, Osprey, and a variety of ducks. Great trail system and many areas to explore! I highly recommend planning for at least a couple of hours to explore this incredible area.

Janelle Dauenhauer — Google review

I used to live in the Bitterroot Valley and so have driven down the old East Side Highway many times during my visits back home to my old home in Hamilton, but I had never driven into the Lee Metcalf Refuge. I was stunned at how beautiful it was. There had been a little snow on the mountains in late September and the air was crisp and clear. Many beautiful views even from your car. I would strongly encourage a visit if you are in the area.

Sam Smith — Google review

Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge has a visitor center, an accessible trail with benches, wildlife viewing trails, and many opportunities for birdwatching and photography in the grasslands, wetlands, and riparian forests of the Bitterroot Valley.Accessibility info and site description: At the visitor center parking lot, there is a large accessible porta-potty and two disabled parking spaces that are not marked for van accessibility. Follow the sidewalk to the left of the visitor center to find a kiosk with brochures, a beautiful view of the Bitterroot Mountains, a covered picnic area off the trail through the grass, and an outdoor amphitheater. To find Kenai Trail, continue on the path and cross the bridge. Kenai Trail is paved, three feet wide, and in mostly good shape. It is an estimated .3 mile loop with five backless benches, and goes through the grasslands. About two miles down the road from the visitor center and Kenai Trail is the Wildlife Viewing Area trails, which go through the riparian forests. Unfortunately there is extensive damage to the pavement at the entrance, which has made the disabled parking unusable and the entrance to the trails no longer wheelchair accessible. The left side of the entrance is passable, but note that it is rocky, uneven, and unstable. Once past this section, there are restrooms, an entrance sign with a map, and a covered viewing area with benches overlooking the creek. A wide paved .5 mile path leads to the Bitterroot River, and there are several trail offshoots from this main path. The Slough Trail is a .4 mile partially paved trail on the left, the Ponderosa trail is a .9 mile looped dirt trail near the entrance sign, and the .4 mile Cottonwood Trail on the right was flooded at the time of my visit. Note: there are no benches along these paths. Other areas of interest at the Refuge include the Grube Barn and the Whaley Homestead.Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge offers stunning, unobstructed views of the Bitterroot Mountains with an added bonus of wildlife viewing. It's usually very quiet and has great opportunities for photography and birdwatching. The best part is that there are trails for all ability levels. I always look forward to my visits here!

Ghost town

Sights & Landmarks

Hiking area

Garnet Ghost Town is a well-preserved gold-mining town from the 1890s, featuring compact log cabins with period furnishings. More than a dozen buildings have been preserved in a state of "arrested decay", providing visitors with an authentic glimpse into the gold rush days when cities were built quickly and vanished just as fast. The ghost town has over 25 buildings to explore, and informational placards are available throughout the site.

Great ghost town, well preserved, and one of the best in the state.. Tons to see and there are placards around the town, explaining what this once lively mining town was like. There are over 25 buildings in the ghost town. You are free to roam around and explore the buildings and town. Depending on the time of year, the 10 mile or so dirt road may be like an amusem*nt ride with the washboard roads.

H. FergMT — Google review

Well worth a visit. Plan on at least an hour or two. Once you start exploring you won't want to stop. Be sure to stop by the visitor center for some good information. Remember to buy something and/or make a donation to help preserve this special place. And leave my big chair alone! If you see the chair, you'll know which one I'm talking about.

It was an adventure to get there. The 200 route is smoother but if you are coming from the east, longer. We came through the rough ( bear gulch and cave gulch) and left on 200. Both are beautiful. The roads are one lane and pretty rough. We were able to do it with a front wheel drive vehicle so 4x4 is not necessary, but follow the signs. It was super tight when we met a car coming in the opposite direction but we were able to squeak by. The town is fun and has a beautiful setting. Some buildings are pretty rough and some have been fixed up a little. Well worth the adventure!

If you want a "real" ghost town experience, this is for you. This town is well preserved and mostly abandoned with cool artifacts and wonderful structures. You can almost feel the presence of the past around you without crazy tourist traps etc. Just watch the road, come in via Dublin Gulch and Route 200.

Zachary Hottel — Google review

Great experience. Love to see historic towns like these. The scenery around was beautiful as well. Pack a lunch and drinks when you go there. Also, be careful on the gravel road, especially in a small car.

Paul Khela — Google review

Been here twice now. Well kept and rather secluded location. Both times I went there was only one other group of visitors. Unfortunately, today the doors to the main buildings (hotel, general store and speakeasy) were locked but we were still able to go into the miners' cabins. This is worth the visit, just be careful on the road up as it is very winding and it can be difficult to see other cars on the curves.

Harry DeVoe — Google review

This was a really fun detour on our trip. The roads were a little rough but was able to make it there in a sedan. The buildings are really cool to look at and the staff there are super fun to talk to. Might be a bit concerned with some of the wood in the buildings, I can see it becoming a safety issue in the future. Overall fun experience I would recommend stopping here

Nena — Google review

Coming from 200 the gravel road wasn't an issue with our full size rental car. Really neat place to walk around and explore. The information placards and the visitors guide were very detailed about the history of the mining and the town. It was a very fun way to spend the morning.

Megan Verzella — Google review

Great stop for a day trip! We had so much fun exploring this little town, it is very well maintained and clean with info posted about each structure. The downside was definitely the service and maps, we did end up with maps taking us down a dead end park road and getting lost for nearly 2 hours. Definitely map the trip there and to the next destination before you go while you have good service!

Miranda Fenlon — Google review

Well kept buildings and an informative brochure to guide you through it! Beautiful area but low riding vehicles not recommended. Great handicap parking spots available.

Kathleen Power — Google review

Beautifully preserved ghost town! You can even go inside the buildings, and some have multiple levels. The signage at each building provides great context that brings the character of the town to life. We came in from MT-200. The road up was pretty easy even though you gain a lot of elevation. We visited all the buildings in an hour and a half, but there are more trails in the area to explore. Bring cash to pay the entrance fee.

Ana Alonso — Google review

We took Bear Gulch Road to get there. Thankfully, we have a Jeep, and we enjoyed the rugged drive. The road out to hwy 200 was a much smoother experience. The grounds and buildings were well maintained. Nice little visitor center and brochures available, even placards at many of the buildings providing its historical significance.... nice to see school buses with kids learning our past.

Chuck Tracy — Google review

Awesome town. I would not attempt in 2wd or a car. Last section of the road had some good size ditches. Road was pretty sketchy in Dec with snow and ice.

Such a sense of gratitude for those responsible for preserving our history and especially to the extent of dedication taken here at Garnet Ghost Town. Here you get an authentic interpretation of how an 1800s Old West Mining town could have looked and what life might have been like for these folks. Several well preserved buildings and a treasure of antiques from that period. I especially liked the Wells Hotel and Kelly's Saloon. Absolutely fantastic and worth every effort to see this Montana Treasure.

Herbert Hutchinson — Google review

Amazing ghost town nestled on the top of a mountain. Well preserved and documented. Plenty of information plaques and most buildings have original furniture and items. Some buildings can be rented in the winter months too.Note: entering from the north side is much easier than from 90. Driving in from 90 involves a steep rocky mountain pass that may be a little too much for a sedan or those afraid of heights

Beautiful spot & we’d definitely go again!! Absolutely no signal on the way up, so be sure to load map before heading there. Not a whole lot of signage. Hwy 200 is the best route to go. It’s a beautiful drive & room for 2-way traffic. The other route was totally harrowing! 😳

Mine

Sights & Landmarks

Gem Mountain Philipsburg is a popular destination for gem enthusiasts, offering the opportunity to mine for local sapphires. Located just outside of Philipsburg, Montana, this attraction allows visitors to wash and sort through gravel in search of precious gems during the warmer months. Additionally, Gem Mountain has a year-round gift store in Philipsburg where visitors can continue their sapphire mining experience indoors.

My sister, her 3 kiddos and I had an amazing time! We had so much fun sorting through the rocks to find sapphires and every time we did it made our day. The people were very friendly and helpful and made it even better. Thank you Gem Mountain for a great experience!

I have been coming here for 5 years and have never been treated so poorly. At 3pm I was put on a waiting list to have the stones looked at, at 5 pm they close and would not look at my stones. We were only here for 1 night. I'm stuck with stones, $45 of nothing. It's not worth your $45. Avoid doing business here

Renee Johnson — Google review

Mining for sapphires is so much fun. we got a few that were larger than 2 carats, We need to send them in to have them heat treated. I highly recommend either going to the mine or buying a box from them to go through!

I love going in to Gem Mountain! Staff are friendly and helpful, sifting the gravel to find little treasures is relaxing. Leaving with those treasures feels therapeutic. Definitely recommend

Shandee Votaw — Google review

We bought two buckets of gravel for $40 each to sort through and found several cuttable stones. Our second bucket had an unusually high amount of sapphires, so be aware that your mileage may vary. They charge reasonable prices and make it straightforward to find sapphires. It was absolutely thrilling to find gemstones. The gravel was raw, muddy, and brown at first, not loaded with polished stones like some tourist destinations do to make people feel special. The way the gravel is sorted by the attendants pushes almost all of the sapphires to the top of the gravel pile when the sieve is flipped onto the table. This makes for a great experience, because multiple sapphires are usually visible before starting the longer part of the hunt.If you'd like your sapphires/garnets cut, they are currently experiencing a one year wait because of how many customers get in line.

Talk about addictive. Digging through dirt @ our age is just good clean fun. We ordered some of ya'lls buckets of dirt and we are on a steep learning curve before our actual arrival in the Big Sky.. Sitting on the Mexican Border sifting thru all this rock is nothing short of just a blast! Still have a few lbs to go through but I'm pretty sure we will order more before we get there. I guess it's kinda like gambling @ a casino without the second hand smoke! Just the luck of the draw..Plotted. Oumuamua. Beep.

Brewery

Food & Drink

Located in downtown Philipsburg, the Philipsburg Brewing Company offers a variety of specialty beers crafted with locally-sourced ingredients. Visitors can enjoy their brews in the tasting room while taking in the charming atmosphere of the town. The brewery takes pride in its Grown Ass Kolsch, a crisp beer with a lemony aroma and doughy flavors. Guests can also appreciate the unique feature of a chilled copper strip down the center of the bar to keep their drinks cold while sipping.

Great beers with a super selection that rotates over time. Make this a stop when you visit Philipsburg! The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and happy to offer samples so you can decide what you want. Cheers!

Solid beer and fun atmosphere! Great invention by the head brewer to put a strip of chilled copper down the center of the bar to keep your brew cold while sipping. Great beer, great people, great atmosphere. Thank you Pburg Brewing for a great afternoon of craft brews! If anyone hasn't taken the drive to Philipsburg it's a must go!

Jessie Obrecht — Google review

I do not recommend this place. They are anti Second Amendment, so I do not patronize their establishment. They have plenty of "progressive" tourists to milk anyway. For a better experience head across the street to the White Front bar. They appreciate liberty and freedom.

Really great brewery. I've never enjoyed a set of samples so much. Highly recommend the Jupiter.

This place rocks! The town is amazing and the PBurg brew house is the bomb! Great variety in brews and the old building is maintained beautifully! There was a kickass car show going on in the community along with other events! And don’t forget to save room for the creamery down the street (get the huckleberry!). This picture perfect town is must stop!IG @thegutsycowgirlFB @TheGutsyCowGirl#googleguide#PNWgirl#traveler#thegutsycowgirl#roadtrip

This is the hub of Philipsburg- the only place that is open 7 days a week. Great craft beers. Hungry? Buy some snacks for a buck to have with your beer. Even better try to be there for one of their "Pint Nights" - and it's likely the organizers will be bringing food - like a Nacho bar!

Joel Johnstone — Google review

Great beer and people! We spent Christmas Eve here and enjoyed the music and celebrations!

Michelle Golden Champ — Google review

A pleasant establishment with a qualified staff and a diverse pull of beers. I tend toward less bitter beers so regrettably the menu was skewed out of my favor. Be that as it may we tested a flight of their light beers and were very pleased. The raspberry Razu was extremely palatable and a big hit with me and my wife. We will certainly be on the eye out for these beers.

John Earley — Google review

Philipsburg Brewing Company is currently serving in an outdoor-only style where patrons are welcome to sit outside and enjoy their patio space in the middle of the Philipsburg Historic District. I really enjoyed the beer here and would highly recommend the Imperial Stout Ale (10% ABV) which has notes of chocolate in it. If you’re in the Philipsburg area, this place is definitely worth stopping by for the high quality brews and the social atmosphere.

Candy store

Shopping

The Sweet Palace in Philipsburg is a candy emporium that boasts an extensive selection of over 1,000 different kinds of treats, including hard-to-find candies from the past. In addition to individually wrapped and hard candies, the store offers fresh handmade sweets such as fudge, taffy, caramels, and chocolates. There's even a selection of sugar-free candies available.

Very fun! Most items are priced by the pound, mix and match. Clean. Lots of sugar free options, homemade goodies, and every flavor of jelly bean and taffy imaginable.

Crystal Bagwell — Google review

Always a wonderful experience to see all the different offerings. The old fashioned decor and decorations make the display of the candies even more special. Definitely worth the trip...your mouth will love it.

Gail Pliley — Google review

This place is sweet tooth heavenly experience. I thought I was going to pass out from a sugar rush coma. This place was so amazing and I love that alot of the chocolates, taffy and fudge are home made. It's so great cause you buy by the pound and you can mix and match candy. Note to people with nut allergies I would not recommend the chocolate in cases or fudge do to cross contamination. Thanks to Lexi who warned me or i would have had a real emergency. But all there are a ton of other candies around for you to try. I love the taffy, bubble gum and other assorted treats. They also had alot of stuff animals which I ended with a cute little red octopus. Sugar-free candy is available.

Ari GB — Google review

This is one of the very last 18th century candy stores. Such a fun place to visit. Our kids were amazed at the variety. They have an old soda dispenser machine as well. There are old candies I have not see since I was a kid. The entire downtown was a neat experience.

Jason Walker — Google review

I was there on the 18th of October. Shirley specializes in making all kinds of chocolate treats including a variety of Fudge. I'm going back to get some more soon. She has nostalgia candies often forgotten when we become adults.

David B. Hunter — Google review

The staff are always friendly, welcoming and helpful. I always buy a bag of the saltwater taffy and a block of fudge when I'm here! The grizzly paws are pretty spectacular too!

b h — Google review

This place really had that old school candy store vibe. They have a huge selection of taffy, chocolate, truffles, jelly beans and more!Oh, and fudge!

Kylan Johnson — Google review

They have every kind of candy you want, even some when we were kids I've not seen in years. You got to go here. Candy, candy, candy.

Swampman — Google review

This candy shop has everything. It takes you back to the days when Penny Candy was a thing. Obviously, the candy is a little more expensive now, but I loved the old timey feel. The staff is super helpful and knowledgeable about the candy in the store. It's paid by the pound minus the chocolate, so you can mix it all up if you want. The chocolate is yummy, and the staff member who works the case answers any questions you have. It's a great place to take the kids to show them how life used to be or as an adult to reminisce how life once was.

Jana Pahler — Google review

Oh. My. Goodness! Soooo much Candy. It’s easy to spend $100 as a fam just filling up the bags with a couple of everything you could ever want. From chocolate to sours and everything in between. There’s also a huge variety of sugar free candies/chocolates. The store is very clean and checkout is smooth. Nothing beats the vintage aesthetic. They even have a Penny machine! Definitely recommend to everyone.

Madeline Wyatt — Google review

We love our annual visit to The Sweet Palace! Before we even arrive, my husband is making a list of all the candies he plans to add to his bag! Not only do they have almost every kind of hard candy and homemade toffee flavors to choose from, their chocolates and fudge selections are out of this world!

Tawnya Becker — Google review

Beautiful shop with huge variety of candies.🍬🍭🍫🍥 My fiance and I came here today from Anaconda and enjoyed the time we spent in there looking around and filling up a couple bags of candy. The ladies who worked there today were very polite and helpful and prices are affordable. We munched on some of our candy on our way home and it is delicious! 😋

Cherie Haugen — Google review

Great nostalgic feel in this candy land shop. I recommend a first pass through the shop without picking anything out as you can end up with WAY too much candy when you get to the end. The homemade chocolates had great flavor, but I wish there were two sizes to the nut clusters as they are huge. It would also be nice to have some smaller bags for the jelly beans as there are 70+ varieties and I prefer to keep the sweet ones separate from the salty ones for flavor mixing.Tons of variety and nice staff make this a great shopping stop.

Black sand traps play so well! Maybe that says something about how I play. 🤔The roll in the fairway is outstanding just watch out, will go left and right.Greens roll fast.Plenty of elevated shots, slopes and drops.I absolutely love the practice facilities.3 practice goes to boot! This course won't disappoint.

What an incredible course...and experience! Played this course on Wednesday September 14 along my route to Ohio...my 191st course in a little over 3 years. The setting is so unique...a Superfund site made stunningly beautiful. The contrast of the immaculate greens and fairways with the black slag bunkers and waste areas...embraced by the surrounding hills make this course an amazing visual treat to play! Great layout with very large landing areas for your drive, with accuracy required closer to the green - the Nicklaus signature design. So much fun to play! Carts were very clean and well cared for.Beautiful clubhouse with interesting interpretive panels detail the unique construction of the course. Orderly, well-stocked pro shop. The recently remodeled Jack's restaurant/bar is very clean and beautifully done, and the food (I ordered a Club) is delicious! The staff at Old Works is awesome. The course pro Andrew was very personable, kind and accommodating, as was Paeton in the restaurant.I'll definitely be back!

James Patterson — Google review

Very unique course from the setting(old copper mine) to the black sand. Challenging from the back tees, a typical Nicklaus design. Some forced carries, more left to right shots, and large greens. Very good course for the $. Food was decent and pro shop is standard. Worth doing.

Jack Nicolas course black sand bunkers. Great views can’t beat it! Cost was $55 for 18 holes with cart and it was nice and quiet. One of the fastest rounds.

Absolutely beautiful Golf Course, really gorgeous and scenic with amazingly plush fairways and greens. I especially loved the sparkling black (coal?) sand traps. We booked our tee time through a platform called Harvest Host, which allows for overnight parking with RV. ‘‘Twas truly an Awesome experience, course was in great condition!

Have played this course over the 4th of July holiday for the last few years. The overall course condition/maintenance has steadily declined over the last few years, the clubhouse however has improved dramatically. The staff is always friendly and fun from the Pro Shop, the wait staff, and cart attendants.. always fun, just wish the course conditions (fairway grass, greens)would improve

Great golf course in Anaconda. Bit out of the way but worth veering off the interstate for. Historic site of an old smelter with lots of cool walls and features built right into the course design. Amazing black bunkers and course is fun the play. Can be windy in the valley at times so be prepared.

Curtis Wakefield — Google review

Absolutely amazing course. Difficult at times but the old structures and history make it almost like a museum inside a golf course. There's water, elevated shots and the furthest tees are over 7200 yards. Also affordable for the evening rate with a cart. Loved this place

Cattle & working draft horses on a traditional 19th-century ranch, now a living history museum.

Stop and walk this Ranch Museum...it is amazing!!!! All the Rangers have a vast knowledge of this place and the outbuildings hold so much information and visual treasures. A wonderful stop for families to teach their children about history.

An incredible preserved snapshot of ranch life. All staff was incredibly friendly, esp the woman serving the cowboy coffee! A must stop for any national park enthusiast.

Nick Esposito — Google review

Learned a lot here. There were several exhibits showing what life was like on a working ranch in the mid-1800's. National Park employees are very helpful and informative. Tours of the house available if you sign up.

Jessica Johnson — Google review

This place is a gem. Second visit while driving through. Wonderful place to stretch your legs during a long I-90 road trip. There are tons of buildings to explore and some animals to see up close. Lots of interesting facts about real life cowboys of the old west. Don't miss the chuckwagon chat. The house tours just reopened 6-27-22 after being closed for years due to COVID. Rangers and volunteers are knowledgeable and very interested in ensuring you have a fun visit as long as you're respectful of the historical artifacts.Make sure the kids get a Junior RANCHER booklet on the way in. My kid already has a vest full of Junior Ranger badges, but they're especially proud of the Junior Rancher badge.

Such an amazing and Historic place to visit! I Remember coming here when I was in Grade school! It was such a Great time and fun Memories! Look forward to coming back in the summer, when more of it is open!

Samuel Tintinger (Hotsprings Sam) — Google review

Sure I am sure glad I found this very fun and informative ranch. There is no entry fee, thank you national Park service. The day I went there they were serving a free chuckwagon lunch. Make sure you sign up for the tour of the main house which is free but limited availability. Get to see what a working ranch is and was. They still farm the ranch and raise cattle and hay. As usual the park service people were very nice people. You could cruise through the place in an hour or spend 2 1/2 hours like I did. You will need to walk a mile or so. Plenty of benches around.

Gary Kowal — Google review

We walked around the ranch for a couple hours. Met a knowledgeable park ranger and a cowboy by the chuck wagon. Lots of interesting stuff and info. Totally enjoyed our visit!

Very impressive for a free tour. Unfortunately they did not let you take photographs of the inside of the house. It is mostly original artifacts inside. Very impressed for house of this age would be preserved this level. Also includes original barns and a bunch of historic carriages

Very interesting ranch and history. You must take the house tour. That was the best. Very informative and interesting. Definitely worth a stop. With tour it should only take a few hours to go thru the whole thing

Jennifer Perez — Google review

This place was pretty amazing!! We went to get our National Parks Passport book stamped but it turned out to be pretty spectacular!!! There was a working blacksmith shop and a real cowboy with coffee brewing over an open fire! LOTS of buildings to self guide through. Cows and horses and chicken. We went out of our way to go so we didn't have time for the tour of the house but wish we had! The views were amazing as well. The husband and wife team that we met at the visitors center were so nice and super helpful. They volunteer their time to work there! We were both super impressed!!!!

Jay Detty — Google review

We were lucky enough to visit the ranch on day when they were haying. Everything on the ranch follows the customs from the early 1900s and watching them use the beaver slide didn't disappoint. We were also fortunate to sit beside a lady whose father built over 50 beaver slides. She was a walking Wikipedia source. We did the house tour and most of the facilities. We spent about 2.5 hours and didn't see everything.

Important place in Western US history. Late 19th century main house with period furnishings. Chuck wagon, bunk house, stables, historic horse-drawn wheeled vehicles, blacksmith shop, and other buildings. If you want to learn about late 19th to early 20th century ranching, the Grant-Kohrs Ranch is highly recommended.

Delbert Estey — Google review

This place was awesome and completely free (they accept donations). The staff was extremely knowledgable and entertaining. I would definitely recommend the house tour and chuckwagon tour. The covered wagon/horse tour was also nice, but I believe it only happens on Mondays. Many of the staff are cowboys and know how to lasso. They are happy to teach you if you ask!

We stopped here on our road trip and it has been one of my kids favorite places. The cars were really cool and there were a lot of them. After we toured the cars we went to the prison and my teenagers absolutely loved it. You get to wonder around throughout the whole thing without being bothered. It made it so we didn't have any pressure and could play stupid games. The staff was great and the town is fun too, if you are thinking about stopping it is worth it.

Marshall Zoerner — Google review

So much to see here. You could spend a full day between the two attractions. The auto museum has way more vehicles than I could have ever imagined to find in this small town. Really pleasantly surprised!Looks like there was some recent damage to the ceiling and some of the cars had obvious water marks from the damaged ceiling.Still though, it didn't take much away from the experience. The prison was really cool, Tons to see and explore. It's laid out really well and in great shape.

Brian Munoz — Google review

What a fantastic museum! We were passing through, and arrived kind of late, but were delighted to learn that our admission is good for up to a year, so we can come back and finish the rest, so long as we keep our receipt! Was mostly excited about the prison portion (which was great) but was so pleasantly surprised by the auto museum. You really do need to spend at least half a day here, but with their extended admission, this works great. Can't wait to return to attend the other attractions we didn't get to see this time (Yesterday's Playthings, Frontier Montana, etc.). Also, we were eligible for a discount, which was so greatly appreciated. Can't wait to come back!

Stephanie Blake — Google review

The auto museum was absolutely amazing. Beautiful cars from early 1900s to current. There are many rare cars to see. 100's of beautiful restored cars. Highly recommend this auto museum. The prison museum was very interesting to see. On display is barbaric old dental and medical tools they used back in the day. Very crazy to see how they handled prisoners so many years ago. This is a very eerie place.

Jill Bowman — Google review

Looks like a super cool place with lots of things to do. It was closed when we got there.(January 2022) It seems to be a good thing to do in a town where "there is nothing to do" we stopped on a road trip and were sad that it was not open. Sign said their season begins Feb 4th.We still walked around the building and enjoyed the architecture they've added. There seems to be some kind of fair ground right next to it too. It's probably where they hold city events.Parking was very very unclear. We might have parked in a field, I have no idea.Overall, I'd love to visit again when it is open if we are ever going through town.

Sara Smith — Google review

The automotive museum is very good. A great collection of cars from every era. Many of them are fairly rare to see. The collection is much larger than I expected. If you are a car person, you should plan your trip through this area to allow you to stop, you will be glad you didThe prison is eye opening. If you have never been in one, you should see it here where they let you leave. You do not want your first tour to be a permanent one haha.

hypur padre — Google review

This is a must see. So many cars and the self guided digital audio tour is great for the prison. Plan on spending at least 3 hours here.Bonus keep your receipt and you can come back for another visit within a year for free.Visit the antique shop across the road. It’s the home of the warden and a super cute shop. The inmate hobby store across the street is also amazing.

Whitney Bytheway — Google review

We used to ask Grandma if she went to college. She said she graduated from MSP, a private girls school out west. Little did we know her alma mater was the Montana State Penitentiary in Deer Lodge. What an amazing place. The car museum goes on and on with a collection of cars that has to be valued in the millions. The old prison grounds are interesting and the buildings are spooky yet give a real sense of what it must have been like inside. The self guided tour had plenty of info and stops with unbelievable and very interesting facts. Bring the family and check it out. As for grandma, she wouldn’t get out of the van while the family saw the sites. She said she wasn’t going back behind those walls. Unreal. Anyway, check it out. Btw, I bet many came to know Jesus in the little chapel there. Pretty cool and Jesus does save. From behind bars to eternity, I can’t imagine!

Q W — Google review

This place is a really cool stop you might otherwise overlook. It has an old prison, hundreds of amazing cars from the 1900s-1970s, and an old toy museum. You gain access to all of this with one admission ticket sold at the prison gift shop, which is good for a 2nd visit within one year. The prison is cool to walk around, and the ghost/paranormal crowd seems to especially dig it. The car museum is amazing, there are so many old, expensive and rare cars in there! I really liked the toy museum, make sure to check out the miniture train exhibit. The caretaker was very kind and sweet.

Jamez — Google review

Love this place. Never thought I'd say that about a prison. But there is so much history here and I went with my husband a few years ago and again just a few weeks ago. I love that we can go into the different cells and offices and see what it was like.

Mynameis NoOne — Google review

This was a fun experience. This prison is old, not maintained, and pretty cool. They offer military discount on admissions tickets. The tickets get you into all the museums. There is a car museum, old vintage logging, mining museum, WW2, old toys, hobby craft, art and pen museum. There are also some old trains to see, a pinic area, old jail, blacksmith shack, log cabin, schoolhouse, carriage house and antique stores.

A Plus — Google review

It's a very educational place for everyone especially the Montanians. This is where you will learn about the prison history and the prisoner's life. It's worth to see. I've been there on Halloween month. The staff decorated the place in a spooky way! I was so scared! They did a great job!

hey.junebug — Google review

Wonderful museum complex just off the highway in Deer Lodge. We were just passing through on the way to Glacier NP and had a little time on our hands. The prison is large and clearly laid out. The displays are very interesting. The attached car museum is wonderful. My husband and I found both our first cars in there. It was quite a fun afternoon. The ticket price includes a second visit, which we plan on using next week to visit the museums across the street of toys and WWII vehicles.

Tina Hawley — Google review

Amazing value! Your ticket to this museum also gets you entry to several others and one revisit for up to a year. The gift shop is very nice, reasonably prices. The staff are friendly, and the tour was excellent. We will definitely take advantage of that revisit! Considering the value you get, the 18.00 adult admission is a real bargain :-).

Eva Landry — Google review

Broken Wings Paranormal (found on YouTube) did an overnight investigation from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. We have investigated other prisons and we are very impressed with how clean this prison is. We loved how easily accessible the building's are, and the fact they're far enough away from each other that we had no issues with interference of sounds from the other buildings or outside. It was sad we weren't able to go into the theater. Hopefully, the investigation fees will help more funds go to supporting the renovation of that building. We would love to come back, especially after the incredible paranormal evidence we captured here. We highly recommend this location for other groups, and even individuals who want to take part in a tour.

SUZIE Q — Google review

This was a great stop!!! The kids didn't want to stop initially, but ended up enjoying reading the plaques and learning about what was made here.We were quite humbled seeing the missing children in the law enforcement museum section, but it opened for a discussion topic that we don't talk about enough, and they wanted to understand more.

Tami Albert — Google review

I visited the Old Montana Prison back in July of this year. I went on the self guided day tour, along with the overnight paranormal tour. The staff both day and night time guides are very friendly, along with being informative with knowledge and stories of the prison. I want to note that ticket price is a good value that provides admission into several other museums besides for the prison.

The World Museum of Mining in Butte offers a glimpse into the city's extensive mining history. Visitors can explore a recreated 1890s mining town, take mine tours, and discover exhibits on mining tools. The museum is an excellent place to learn about the copper mining industry that once thrived in Butte. In addition to the Mineral Museum and Trolley Tour of Uptown Butte, visitors interested in local history should consider adding this attraction to their itinerary.

This is another must-do adventure if you’re in the Butte area! It is a very well put together museum and has exhibits of what a mining town would have looked like back in the 1800s plus actual copper and silver mining artifacts and platforms. There are a lot of exhibits to see covering a large outside area. There is also an actual old mine that you can tour, but that does require a separate ticket and is usually booked-up several days in advance, so it’s best to reserve your spot online. The mine tour takes you down about 100 feet into the mine, and is an exceptional experience and learning adventure. It is great for kids also, but not small children. It also is a fairly steep decline into the mine, and is pitch dark. They do provide you with helmets that have attached lights on them, but this was a fully working mine and is currently used to train mining students at Montana Tech. While they do everything to keep you safe, there are a lot of obstacles, and you have to be focused and have your wits about you. I would not recommend the mine tour if you’re claustrophobic or have other health ailments. It is also about 45° once you get down to 100 feet. But there is still plenty to do and see even if you don’t do don’t mine tour. They also have a lot of events going on during the summer, so check their website. The museum is also getting ready to start their haunted mine tours, so look for events and details on their website.

Greg Houston — Google review

We passed through Butte twice on our way to Glacier National Park and coming back which was lucky for us as the mining tour is limited in numbers so we needed to book 4 days in advance. This tour is a gem, it is very authentic and down below earth and our guide Ken was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The tour inspired us to explore more and we visited The Archives Museum in The Historical District where again the staff were very welcoming and helpful. We were delighted we spent some time in Butte.

John Devitt — Google review

I love this museum. This was my second time visiting and I loved getting to share it with my family. This is a great stop for kids with so much to look at, interact with, and just the immense amount of space it takes up. It takes a little over an hour (and thats with speed reading signs!). I have never done the actually underground tour but it's on my to do list now.

Victoria Poisel — Google review

This is Avery nice history of mining in Butte. The pictures and donated memorabilia really helps show what life was like in a mining town. The town mock-up is fantastic at showing period prices showing invitation of the times. From dentistry to banking and everything in between. There is an actual mine tour, I would suggest calling ahead to get your times before you go. It was well worth the entry fee.

Michael — Google review

Great, knowledgeable guide who made the tour fun and quite interesting. Loved going down into the depths of the earth to experience what it was like to have be there. And the museum was set up very nicely with a great array of items and implements of how it was back then.

Would've loved to do the underground tour but our kiddos were too small (we will have to come back!)Our 2yo and 4yo were kinda bored so I don't think I recommend this in general for their ages unless the museum were to open up a little kiddos hands on learning exhibit. But we loved walking thru the town and the seeing all of the old equipment. Definitely don't miss this stop in Butte!

This was a fun place to go. There is an old time mining town to wander through. Kid friendly. There is an underground mining tour that is a lot of fun but I, personally, wouldn't take young children on it because of the steep grades and darkness of being underground. The only light is from the light on the hard hat everyone is wearing. At one point the light is turned off. This is a an excellent experience to see the reality of an old time mining town and experience a mine.

This was an interesting tour with a wonderful tour guide. Ken was very informative and funny. The tour was a good length and was well worth it. Get on Kens tour and you can’t go wrong.

Ashley S — Google review

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. She provided details and colour about mining history at both this mine as well as other mines in the area.Lots of buildings to view and walk around, plus an interesting display of different rocks and geodes. I particularly found the fluorescent rock display to be intriguing.

Located on the far side of Montana Tech University, the World Museum of Mining is, hand’s down, a terrific place to learn about life in an 1800s mining town. The museum has brought in period buildings from all over, added local period pieces (whether saloon, apothecary, undertaker, and any of the dozens of other establishments) to make the town seem seamless. Most of the buildings had a QR code provided for obtaining additional information.Even before leaving the museum store where you buy tickets to either the above ground and/or below ground experience, you will learn much about mining in Montana. There also are a couple special exhibit rooms which were mostly from private collections (one being dolls and doll houses mostly related to early Montana life; the other minerals and rocks). The underground mine tour was led by Michael. He is well versed in the mining history of the area and was fully engaged in sharing what he knew. There is SO much to see. My photos are only a small portion of our time there. Plan to spend at least three hours (1.5 on the underground, and the same walking the property). For your convenience and comfort, there is a perfectly modern restroom facility.

Sue Martindale — Google review

This museum was awesome. We took the Underground tour and it was fantastic! Rick was so knowledgeable and he really wanted us all to have an enjoyable time. I learned so much!! Some remarkable people are restoring this wonderful piece of history! Great job staff and donors. You can be proud of this gem!!

Carrie Shields — Google review

Highly recommend taking a tour of the mine! Very knowledgeable couple of guys. One worked as a miner in the 70s, and the other worked at a mine as well. They both had plenty of stories ranging from their own, to the stories of their fathers/grandfathers...What a cool little place. They did a great job of painting the scene of old school mining. Awesome, and tragic history

Dylan Robles — Google review

Great informative mine tours. Staff was very knowledgeable about the machinery in the mines, as well as their geology. I would definitely recommend getting your tickets for the tour at least a day ahead, as there are limited spots available. In addition, wearing a light sweatshirt is a good idea, because temperatures in the mine are about 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Wear close-toed walking shoes (it gets muddy). Amazing experience for families!

Anne Marie Frandsen — Google review

Loved this place and stayed longer than I had planned because there is a lot to see! Entrance fee with the mine tour was just over 20 dollars. Recommend booking the tour ahead of time online. The tour of the mine was great! Been in many caves, but not a mine. There are no stairs, but it is sloped for the entire tour. You go down 100 feet while wearing hard hats with lights. Really cool experience. There is a little recreated town to walk through and it's interesting learning about the late 1800s to 1950s time-frame of a mining town. Recommend this place! And leave plenty of time so you're not rushed.

Natalie Koffarnus — Google review

This site is loaded with historical eye candy of all kinds. From the Mining operations to the reconstructed town site it was a fully immersive experience. Our tour guide Troy gave us a tour that made the experience of the miners and this unique Butte American community come alive for us. My perspective on this important and often overlooked part of our history was enhanced and I honestly got teary eyed with pride thinking about how hard those men worked to do such a dangerous yet essential job. Hands down one of the best Montana tourist attractions and that is saying something! Thank you Troy!!!

Established memorial to mining history in a peaceful, open air plaza with panoramic views.

This was an unplanned stop but was really fascinating to learn about. The view at night was amazing and the size of the mining operation is mind blowing. Be sure to listen to the stories while you are there to learn more about it.

Loved it. It's a must go to see for anyone. Walk down the hill it's fun

If you're in the area and want to get a bit of history with the miners of Butte then this place is it. You get a good perspective, view and learn alot about the miners and the events that they had to go thru. Highly recommend it you're in the area.

Nathan Martin — Google review

I vote for the Berkeley pit to be the 8th wonder of the world! The views from this memorial are spectacular. The audio clips are priceless and it is a great walk through history and a better understanding of the life of miner's. A free must see in Butte!

Jae Forsythe McCabe — Google review

Not too many people include this historical spot in their itinerary, but i must say it is a MUST. We stopped as a final spot in our drive from Glacier National Park to Bozeman and i must say it was one of the best stops. Very emotional story to this place. Everyone should take the time to listen to the audio at the machine and read all the letter from the victims

More Legs Room — Google review

A reverent place to go. You can do a quick visit, but if you are truly interested in the experience, plan to stay for a while to read everything. There is an audio panel with verbal stories that you can listen to. Again, plan on a little extra time spent here, it will be worth it.

Mark Bishop — Google review

Hiked up to this spot today and wow, what a pleasant surprise. It did indeed frrl like hallowed ground. What a wonderful memorial for the miners who lost their lives. I believe you can drive up there, but I highly recommend the hike.

Devin Munce — Google review

One of the deadliest mining disasters happened here. Visiting this location honors the people who suffered so much loss.

Sally Ragusa — Google review

Wonderful memorial, especially for someone out of town not familiar with mining life. Kind of out of the way but I found it worth it. I liked it was personal and had timeline and shared letters from the time. I was tearful (maybe I'm overly emotional).

Jen Huband — Google review

Not sure what I expected. It’s nicely done. You can see the Berkeley pit but not the water. The history of all the deaths is insightful. WC accessible and audio available for the education via buttons.

Chris Tirello — Google review

We came as tourists, and were not disappointed. This place was amazing. It has beautiful views, memorial dedications all throughout and an interactive audio story machine. I came not knowing what I was getting into, and left feeling like an expert in the mining disaster that took place below the memorial site.

Blair Hickok — Google review

Humbling and touching memorial about all the workers who lost theirs lives working in the mining industry in Butte, MT. Make me appreciate modern and safer work conditions we have today. Nice views of Butte, the mines and the mountain surrounding the city. So much history still present these day around this hill.

Louis-Alexandre Breton — Google review

Very thorough multi-media memorial with audio recordings from survivors, witnesses and first responders, providing a visceral and respectful remembrance of the victims, families and community. Excellent views of the historic mine headframes as well as the currently operating Berkeley pit mine.

This former copper-mine viewing point overlooks the huge open pit, now flooded with water.

Way bigger than we expected! You can see the waste water plant from the viewing stand, there's a lot of interesting informational signage, and we heard these echoing monitoring stations, not sure what they were for, but I intend to find out. Pretty cheap entry too.

Zzozzez — Google review

Arrived but was unable to get in. Google maps said it was open. Sign on the door said they should be open according to hours posted. Obviously hasn't been open for a while from the notes of the people showing up and also being disappointed to find them closed. The management should probably update their signs on the building to reflect the actual hours open.

wade mendenhall — Google review

Lots of good info for the curious mind. $5 per person and you can walk through the tunnel to the viewing area. In said area there are some signs with historical info and pictures, benches, and an old binocular thingy that costs a quarter. The entry building/gift shop has some souvenirs.

Cody Bay — Google review

So interesting ! Our tour guide was retired history teacher. It doesn't get any better than that!

Tracy Barraza — Google review

Pretty cool place. $5 bucks to walk through the tunnel to the observation deck. If you are into this kind of thing it is worth the $5 bucks. If unsure, send someone through 1st and have them decide if it is worth the whole crew paying the $5 each.

Your Local Review — Google review

Have been here a few times. Always interesting to see. I think the informational displays at the viewing area are due to be updated and modernized. Difficult to read through the messy glass, and the info is quite dated. It also can get extremely windy in the viewing area, FYI

Trish L. — Google review

This thing is awesome! The platform allows you to take a look at the entire pit easily. The fee was fairly cheap and there were a few informative panels that tell all about the origins of the Berkeley Pit.

Anne Marie Frandsen — Google review

A small viewing deck to watch the huge pit. It’s a self-guided tour but you will get enough information about its history.

Marcos Shiang — Google review

A great place to stop and take in the views! So much rich history and it is amazing to learn facts about the operation that made Butte the richest hill on earth!

Molly Burt — Google review

Found this on Google maps, was curious to know what it was. We were visiting Montana and had time to kill. Entry fee was $3 per person. Walked through large tunnel and onto the platform that over looks the pit. Crazy how much water is there!! Turned green due to all the minerals in there. There's placeboards that tell the history of it. Small gift shop and they offer a tour thru the city on a bus for $25. Place is interesting

Lorenzo R. C — Google review

Very interesting stop to enjoy local history, and very reasonably priced. Handicap accessible, so my daughter was able to see everything with us. To see and hear about the past mining operations in Butte, I would recommend this stop.

Mike Burnside — Google review

Makes for a great stop when driving from Yellowstone to Glacier. Entrance fee is $3. The view of the Berkley Pit is amazing and there is a small “Museum” that informs you about the history. You won’t spent a long time there, but it’s very informative and interesting.

Wandern Leo — Google review

Definitely worth the $3 to enter tunnel to reach pit and view up close. Great little gift shop with beautiful copper jewelry and kitchenware, etc. Large boards to read history and see old photos; also a narrated audio voice re: history and current operations via speakers while you view the pit.

Rho M. — Google review

Cute stop with some interesting information. The woman in the shop was extremely friendly and the view outside is impressive. She was kind enough to warn us about the noises they set off to keep the birds out of the water which was highly appreciated as an Iraq and Afghanistan War Veteran. A quick inexpensive educational stop for those nearby.

Fishing with Fish Tales Outfitting well be one of the best experiences you can have. He'll put on fish all day. Last time I fished with Mike it was fish on all day....

Rocky O — Google review

My husband & I had the fishing experience of a lifetime! We had never been fly fishing before. Our captain patiently showed us the tricks, expertly navigated the boat, and helped each step of the way. The views were incredible and fly fishing was awesome! We found it easy to catch fish & loved the entire process. Lunch was great & we felt well taken care of. This was trip was our "splurge" for ourselves and was worth every penny. We will absolutely do it again next year!

My wife and I spent two wonderful days floating the river with Lamont. Floated both the Madison and the beaver head and thoroughly enjoyed both days. Lamont is a true professional. Can’t wait to come back again next year.

Len Guldman — Google review

My father and I had a wonderful 1/2 day float on the Madison with FishTales outfitting last week. He is one of the top guides I have fished with in any situation.Mike did a great job of instruction for my 73 year old father who had never fly fished before and was only able to sit (not stand) in the boat. He was excellent at positioning the drift boat to give dad the best opportunity resulting in multiple hookups and several trout landed - dad's first fly rod fish of any kind!Mike's patience, knowledge, sense of humor, and kindness were on display throughout the day - he even laughed at dad's stories! While doing all of that Mike also managed to keep a slightly more experienced angler busy and productive by pointing out runs and pockets to cast to, honing my technique and teaching me how to fish streamers on the Madison. Mike's knowledge of the river allowed us to be prepared for the upcoming pockets of fish holding water in time to make the appropriate casts and his expertise in the drift boat was evidenced by his positioning the boat to allow the most productive drifts, including long drifts of the fly near undercut banks. All of this with a friendly, easy-going guide and beautiful scenery made for an outstanding trip. I hope to fish with Mike Stack and FishTales Outfitting again if I get back to the area. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great fishing experience.

Jim Hoffmann — Google review

I had two incredible days on the Big Hole with LaMont Carter, couldn't ask for a better guide! Lots of fish to the boat both days, including several over 19 inches. If you're thinking about fishing the Big Hole, think FishTales and LaMont. You won't be disappointed.

Russ Krier — Google review

In March of 2013, I floated the Big Hole River on two seperate occasions with Mike Stack of FishTales Outfitting. Both trips were excellent! Mike is a very experienced guide. He reads a river and positions the boat for success after success. Mike is patient, attentive, and calm. He even takes the time to make personalized videos of the adventure for his clients...super cool with underwater releases! If you want to catch respectable fish (20" trout or larger) and have a great day on the river with an experienced guide....FishTales Outfitting!

Angela Welles — Google review

“Great Guide - Great Fishing – None Better”My cousin and I visited Montana last summer and I can't say enough about Mike Stack and FishTales Outfitting. He was easy to contact and went well beyond just accommodating us when booking our trip. On the various rivers he was very friendly and knowledgeable. He put us on fish after fish... Above all we had a lot of fun. Mike is the best guide I have ever fished with and I can't wait to go back.

Leonard Cederholm — Google review

Had a great day on the Big Hole with Troy. First time back in MT in a very long time for my Dad and I. Mike and FishTales set us up with Troy and we had a fantastic day. Caught five different species on the upper Big Hole and Troy kept us informed, entertained and on the fish. We can highly recommend FishTales for your next guided trip in SW Montana.

Darryl Parkinson — Google review

My dad and I have been fly-fishing for 15 years and we still fish with Mike everytime we are in Montana. He is a cool guy, an amazing guide, and a great teacher. We have fished with him on the Madison, Jefferson, Big Hole and the Beaverhead and had tremendous success everytime. He will work hard all day to make sure your fly floats through every hole in the river. He will even row back UPSTREAM to let you float through the good holes again. Awesome dude to fish with whether you're an expert or a beginner. Hope to fish with him again soon!

The hot spring pool at Norris Hot Springs flows into a cool spray system which makes it a fun place to relax. The campground has a live music venue in the evening, and is family-friendly during the day.

My husband and I are from Southern Illinois and visiting Livingston for our honeymoon and stumbled upon Norris Hotsprings. We were looking at a couple of venues for hot springs and what stood out the most about Norris' location was that we could book a private soak. Let me tell you the price was well, WELL worth it. 26° outside and the water was the perfect temperature. The gal behind the counter was helpful, personable, and an absolute joy to speak with. The 2 hr time slot was a perfect amount of time to decompress and unwind, with champagne and food to enjoy as well. They also had a gorgeous and talkative old "man" who graced us with his presence for a few minutes! 10/10 will be back whenever we make it back out here!

Colleen Camarano — Google review

A unique spot to visit !No chlorinated water or treatment of any kind as the spring flows at 60 gallons per minute.Pretty nice place for a dip & a healthy bite to eat (or a drink if you’re into that kind of thing.)I like the live music year round on the weekends. Get there early !Only one pool & no cold water dip (there is a cold water sprinkler of sorts in the one pool.)A spot to enjoy if you’re camping, floating or fishing on the Madison river.A Montana tradition not to be missed !

"You're simply the best, better than all the rest." I've been coming here all my life and while yes, it's busier now, only because it's wonderful! It still is what it always was- a natural wonder with better food and better atmosphere.

Elle Hayes — Google review

We had a private 2 person soak in early January/winter for 2 full hours and loved every minute of it. From the excellent water and temperature to the perfect playlist, music level, and vibe, this was an awesome experience. Not quite snow on the ground, but a nice crisp air in contrast to the perfect temperature water. The bartender, Miles, was perfect - just the right amount of checking in on us and offering more food or drinks and mainly just leaving us alone to soak. Beer/wine/kombucha and great food without having to leave the water.A perfect two hour experience and well worth it. I hope this place stays exactly like it is, wood floor and walls, minimally developed (just enough), and a great vibe.No idea how it is when there's more people there, but I imagine this draws a great crowd of people who are comfortable with it exactly how it is, and it's still fun and worth a visit during the open admission periods.

Matthew Bafford — Google review

This is a must to check out! The food is incredible and the new owner Miles is fantastic. Happy to have met him and his crew when we stopped by for lunch. Fresh from the garden we had a salad, chicken burrito, chips and guacamole and a special made pizza by Miles with pickles ! Incredible experience. Thank you!

I had a great time here for a 1.5 hours trip, even in the rain! Very casual and small, but the local food and bar was a lovely bonus. It was perfect as a solid traveler, the pool made it easy to talk to strangers and hang. Would definitely go back.

Margo Dalal — Google review

Nice pool for adults to hang out, kids too. $10 per adult. Wooden benches line the edge so you can sit and soak up to your shoulders. There is cold water spraying into the “pool” from above and that makes it cold when the wind blows. Food available menu has salads, nachos, pizza, rice bowls etc. also, ciders and beer. Changing rooms available and porta potties.

jennifer Taylor — Google review

We spent two nights at the affiliated campground here and had to spend a few hours soaking in the hot spring. It's a really cool pool with a wood slat bottom. They cool the water to around 100 degrees so it's comfortable, and have cold water spraying over part of the pool so you can cool off if the heat gets to be too much. The real winner here was the attached garden-to-table bar and grill which had plenty of food and drink options. Many items on the menu are prepared with fresh ingredients from the extensive on-site garden!Definitely a great way to spend an afternoon.

Zac Clark — Google review

One of the best hot springs I’ve ever been to! The atmosphere was awesome, water was warm and the live music was great. Service up at the bar was friendly, quick and great too! Shout out to Miles and Annie who served us with smiles! Will definitely be back.

Very quaint hot springs in the town of Norris. The water is a perfect temperature with a wood base . Beautiful drive along the River . The hot springs does not provide towels or lockers so make sure you have a towel and be prepared to leave your belongings either in car or not locked up. They do serve beer and food. Service was ok. Very crowded the days we went on a Sunday. Plenty of parking. They also have RV sites .

Lisa lisa — Google review

Best hot springs in Montana! Friendly staff supplying you with local delicious beers and fresh delicious food. It's awesome when it's from their greenhouse as well. I recently moved so I'm going to miss you Norris. Thanks for all the great times ❤️☺️.

Vincent Stephan — Google review

I somehow had high hopes for this place but it turned out to be a disappointment. The pool itself didn’t seem very clean and hygienic. The bottom of the pool was filled with moss and very slippery. It made me nervous. The restrooms and the changing rooms were stinking of pee. The food and drinks were good and that’s the only plus. I wish the pool was better maintained. The scenery around was very nice.

Sritama Chakraborty — Google review

When I reserved two nights at this campground, it was only $33 per night (it's since gone up to $50/night). Given that and the "middle of nowhere" factor, I came into it with low expectations of a short stop on our way to Yellowstone. What we got here, rather, completely blew me away. My only gripe is that the sites are very small - not enough room for a picnic table on the narrow site. However, the bath house was one of the nicest and cleanest I've ever seen. The surroundings are beautiful, and the access to the hot springs made it a great experience. There was a lady doing landscaping who was one of the hardest working people I've ever seen, and it shows in the beauty of the place and surroundings. At $33, it was a steal. But even at $50 its still a solid value. Highly recommend!

Very pretty place with lots of fascinating history. Has easy walking trails that are good for dogs and kids.

VERY confusing! We helped others after we figured out where the confluence was. Disappointing!

K. Reid — Google review

I was traveling across i94 and then i90. I’ve been intrigued by the Lewis and Clark expedition for a while and I kept seeing signs along the interstate that it was the Lewis and Clark trail. So when I saw the sign for this park, I knew it was a key point in their journey. Just a couple miles off the interstate, I took the time to drive there and ended up spending 90 excited minutes exploring. Lots of great history and some good viewpoints you can climb up to fairly easily.

Nick Deford — Google review

We are from Missouri so it was cool to see the Missouri River Headwaters. The ranger followed us to where we parked and was very quick to tell us that it was 8 bucks to park. We paid 8 bucks and spend a total of 10 minutes there. It was weird and not worth 8 bucks but they knew they could get it so they did.

Ryann Conner — Google review

Not what I expected for a state park. Took us a total of a half hour to see it all. Not sure it was even worth the entrance fee.

Mark Preston — Google review

Very interesting place to visit. Nice walk to the headwaters

Visited during the winter and was disappointed. The hiking trails were pretty limited and the "park" seemed to just be random paths along a decently busy highway.

6-8 Oct 2023. Nice campground near the Madison River. A short walk (about 1/2 mile) takes you to the confluence of the Jefferson and Madison rivers, the official beginning of the Missouri River. Short walking trails lead away from the campground. Historic Three Forks is just a few miles away. Campground is well maintained even in the off-season. We found the bees a bit of a nuisance, but otherwise, we enjoyed our stay.

John Pearson — Google review

The most disgusting place I have ever stayed. The outhouse hadn't been cleaned in quite awhile. Feces on the floor and the river of urine. The camp host looks as if he just quit rehab and will not talk to you to even let you know that there is no camping year round. They will just issue you a ticket. The history was awesome. The river absolutely beautiful. Avoid the campground at all costs. For the safety of you and yours don't do it.

Dave Wright — Google review

Excellent place to stop while driving up or down I-90. Great place to stretch legs and see some history. It's really a gem of an experience knowing you are standing at the confluence of the biggest river in the USA and all of the history that goes with it.The pay station was unattended. There is an outhouse bathroom by the pay station. Recommend walking the mowed trail that goes by the old hotel. . Kids enjoyed the park. We stayed about one hour total.

Nice place to sit and watch the river flow by. Never too crowwded. A pleasant place there are sites that you can have birthday parties or just watch the wildlife. A good place for birders and fishing. Just watch out for the moose. They can be pretty intimidating especially during the rut. A great place if you like to watch the ice flows

Richard Herron — Google review

We were brought here by our local friends, and totally surprised by this beautiful park. As the “Head” of the longest river in the US, this park definitely left a clear and long lasting memory for my self, and gave me a good story to tell about the great state of Montana!

Xin Chen — Google review

I didn't go on any hikes but that is an option. Park has a state fee which you put in the envelope upon entering. Drove to the confluence of the Missouri. Pretty neat.

Darrin Roitstein — Google review

It was like going back in time, especially when the beavers were right at the confluence of the Jefferson and Madison Rivers. It was an added blessing to learn that this was discovered by the Lewis and Clark Core of Discovery and that it was also Sacajawea's childhood home. I was also thankful that the advent of silk, and a change in styles, saved the beaver from extinction. Here begins a river of frontier history and culture.

Amazing hike! Well kept trail. WILDFLOWERS GALORE!

Great views all the way up the trail went on a Saturday morning and saw a few other groups. Beautiful scenery. Took us a little over 3 hours to hike to the lake and back.

What a great hike! It's around 7 miles if you do they whole up and back. Early on you hike through beautiful wildflowers and sloped alpine meadows. Keep your eyes open for moose (although we didn't see any on this trip) sitings. Once you get about 2 miles in the trail has some steep sections. At the top you have gorgeous alpine lake that even holds fish for those who bring a fly rod with them. Get there early on most days as the parking is limited.

Beautiful trail. So much to see and enjoy. Never boring. Love it.

Absolutely stunning trail - no wonder the locals find this place special! Not too crowded and trail is clearly marked all the way up. Definitely worth stopping a couple times to take in the views. Gets chilly at the top - so be prepared! Would definitely do this hike again.

Beautiful hike but very well known and busy. If you prefer solitude, come here off season. Still amazing and worth it. Little under 7 miles total and 1500ft of elevation gain - nothing bad.

What a beautiful hike! It was long about 7 miles round trip and part of it steep but we were surrounded by gorgeous wild flowers. The scenery reminded me of the movie, Sound of Music in the Swiss Alps.As you climbed higher, the views got better. Be ware of the altitudes and bring plenty of water. It’s a popular hike and the parking lots can fill up quickly.

Parts of the trail are slippery and icy. Highly recommend wearing ice grippers. We didn't have them and two of us slipped on ice going up and one slipped on the way back down. The trail steadily elevates (which I knew beforehand), but I'm not used to the elevation at all, so getting enough oxygen was the limiting factor. Don't forget to take that into consideration when deciding whether to go on this trail if that is a factor for you as well. We got halfway through before we turned around. The way back was easier, but more dangerous because of the icy areas. Probably won't be that much of a problem for those that hike outdoors in this type of weather regularly, but if you don't, this is another thing to keep in mind. Views are very nice though. We also saw bear tracks, so don't forget your bear spray just in case.

Beautiful country and views! The trail was pretty muddy and snowy today. With stops and pics our hike took 3 hours and 45 minutes. GPS said it was 6.5 miles to the basin.

Kyle N — Google review

Get here early if you want a quiet hiking experience as tons of folks show up throughout the day! The basin itself is unremarkable, but bushwack up another 500 feet in elevation for gorgeous views.

Lone Peak Brewery & Taphouse is a craft 10-barrel brewery that not only offers a variety of beers but also serves pub food and breakfast. Visitors have had excellent experiences at the brewery, where they were welcomed by Moses the wonder dog and enjoyed the dog-friendly patio. The wait staff was friendly, and the food, including dishes featuring bison, was described as terrific. Guests also loved the selection of beers, including an award-winning barrel-aged stout.

Excellent experience at Lone Peaks Brewery. We were welcomed by Moses the wonder dog. Sat on the patio which is obviously dog friendly. The wait staff was so nice. The food was terrific. We had the Nacho’s for an app. Loved the beers.

Food was far too overpriced for the the quality we received. Good fries though. Also, the hostess was very rude to my party and I only on having just arrived. Then she proceeded to say we couldn’t sit separately from each other even though there was 12 of us. Her tone was almost as if she was too good to be seating us. Would’ve probably got a 4/5, but the service was terrible. (Edit after receiving owners response) Thank you for taking the time to respond to my review, but I think you're misunderstanding how Google Reviews works. Google review is a wonderful system that allows consumers to review a place or establishment, while simultaneously giving feedback to others and establishments. You good sir/ma'am are taking this FREE feedback and time spent by others and wiping your butt with it. This feedback should be gratefully accepted and used to improve your business. Also let me inform you to why Customer Service is important because you fail to realize. It allows the customers to enjoy themselves and entices them to come again, but what do I know? I'm just some Google reviewer taking time out of my day to review some mediocre establishment.

Good beer and food. Great atmosphere, very chill. Food was good and had bison on the menu in several dishes. Award winning stout that was barrel aged. Not fancy but enjoyable.

Went with my friends and we had SO much fun! It was mentally challenging and definitely pushed us, but we had so much fun along the way. Not too spooky, just good solid vibes that made us immediately want to come back. Thank you so much to the staff for giving us an experience to remember!

Hailey Livingston — Google review

Was okay, instructions were given really fast. Wasn't too excited to leave my phone in an unlocked box out front. The room was in need of some basic repairs. It was a well used escape room and you could tell people had tore it apart before and they had kinda tried to fix it.

We had a blast doing the Heist room! The puzzle was well put together and just the right combination of not too easy and not too hard. This was our first time doing a break out room and the beginning instructions were very vague and difficult to follow. We were also disappointed a couple different times when we were asking for a hint and we had to wait quite awhile until the person working was back at their desk. The end felt really brief and anticlimactic. He very quickly went over what we were missing in the last clue we had gotten stuck on, but was very short and awkward and didn't do any of the ending photos with props that we expected. Overall, the room was a great experience, the customer service not so much.

After having an absolutely amazing experience at another escape room in town this one felt like a bit of a let down. The Asylum room felt like it lacked creativity and was unnecessarily complicated. The staff was very nice and engaging-- the actual room was just a bit disappointing.

This was such a great experience! I did it with my 3 other friends, and we had a great time. The owner is so passionate. A “mental” escape room. 10/10 would love to do the other room!!!

Caitie Stansfield — Google review

I did the asylum escape room with my boyfriend and it was honestly the worst escape room I have ever done. There weren’t any lockers for our stuff but rather an unlocked box. The compass we were using appeared to be broken and wasted the majority of our time trying to figure it out. At the end when he came into the room I asked him what we were supposed to do with one of the clues and he said it had nothing to do with escaping the room. Then why was it locked in the drawer if it was useless?? Definitely will not be going back to this place; it was a waste of money and the rooms are supposed to be challenging and fun not impossible and frustrating.

First time ever!!! I had some pretty intense anxiety because I didn’t know what to expect. I don’t know his name, but he was so understanding and so attentive during the experience. I really enjoyed this and honestly can’t wait to do it again.

Bozeman Breakout is the place to go! Walking in, we immediately knew this place was the place for us! The lovely man at the front desk was super informative and definitely has passion in what he does! We loved every second of it and definitely recommend!

Amazing place. My friends and I did “The Heist,” and the attention to detail was magnificent. The storylines are really well done. I’ll come back soon, and I can’t wait for the new room!

Hayden Shupp — Google review

This experience was absolutely amazing! We finished our room with less than 2 minutes remaining, and it was so well set up! Thanks for making it so fun!

Alexandra Coey (Ally) — Google review

This was our first escape room experience. We had a wonderful time with "The Asylum" that we turned around and did "The Apollo". The young gentleman that was running things that day dud an amazing job at multitasking and setting the mood for the rooms. I will be back.

Zeph Casias — Google review

so. much. fun. the employee was amazing to us (to the point where we stayed like two hours just talking to him.. i’m so sorry) the room was a lot of fun, and just challenging enough for us to have a fun time figuring it out. i had a great time and i’ll definitely be coming back to try the other rooms!

We’re huge fans of escape rooms and loved Bozeman Breakout! We’ll definitely return to try another room.
