The 16 best bed and breakfasts in San Juan (2024)

This boutique hotel in Ocean Park offers comfortable and stylish quarters with access to many of San Juans cultural attractions. It is a holistic wellness concept with easy access to San Juans beaches and gardens. Each of the 12 rooms is unique and bright, with calming New Age elements combined with antique furniture and crystals. The Dreamcatcher is a white washed clay-tiled house that has been decorated with bougainvillea trimming and Buddha statues. It is San Juans first vegetarian hotel.

My husband and I along with another couple stayed here for 4 nights and I loved it. The atmosphere is incredible. The singing coqui frogs at night were magical. I stayed in room 1, where the bathroom is bigger than the bedroom with an open outdoor window that brought in lovely sounds at night. I loved our “outdoor” shower. The use of beach towels and chairs, free of charge, was incredibly nice. I enjoyed the common areas too. Highly recommend!

This hotel was absolutely nothing short of amazing! The entire staff was extremely kind and helpful. I particularly enjoyed Amanda and Victor who are apart of the kitchen staff. They were super friendly and provided the best recommendations on things to do on the island. Victor also makes the best Matcha and breakfast by these guys was very good. After arriving, I tried to extend my trip but was unsuccessful due to the flight. The hotel is extremely clean and zen. I loved everything about my stay from all the beautiful plants, the decor, yoga on the beach, massage in my room and more. Lastly, this was my first solo trip and I felt extremely safe, even walking to the local shops and restaurants in the Ocean Park neighborhood. I definitely plan on coming back for a longer stay.

AMAZING STAY AND STAFF. First time in Puerto Rico and they made the stay so stellar. The rooms are refreshing and fun. The communal spaces on the property are beautiful. Also, so close to the beach! Definitely coming back soon.

My fiance and I stayed at the Dreamcatcher in San Juan for 6 nights and had the absolute best time. The staff were AMAZINGLY helpful and kind. They really made you feel like you were the only guest there. The space is beautiful and it really is such a peaceful space for relaxation. It is also SO close to the beach and many great restaurants which we loved. We stayed in one of the sanctuary rooms and it was perfect. The outdoor shower was amazing after the beach and it even came with full sized shampoo, conditioner, and body wash which is such a nice touch. The bed was incredibly comfortable and there was plenty of space both in the room and in the common areas. We made great use of the drink fridge as well! We only had breakfast there one morning but the food was incredible. We went snorkeling through the hotel which was so much fun and SO worth the price. The hotel itself is nestled into nature so we did hear a lot of birds and other nature noises at night so if you are a super light sleeper that is something to keep in mind.Overall we had a fantastic stay at the Dreamcatcher and would highly recommend to anyone looking to travel to Puerto Rico!

Staying here was the best way to end my summer season. The hotel is gorgeous; you feel a sense of calm and relaxation right when you step in. The beach is close and easy to walk to; they even provide chairs and towels to use. The food and service were top tier, and everyone was so welcoming.

I am going to preface this review with the fact that I thought I had done my due diligence in scouring reviews prior to booking. The actual positive to negative reviews on line are so skewed that I was bamboozled into thinking what most people would, surely it's got to be great and those with something bad to say are just negative people in general. Unfortunately, since my abrupted stay, I tend to think that Dream Catcher must be negotiating people to write the positive reviews and nix the negative ones as often as possible. Every negative review is met with critical sarcasm and rudeness from the property. So with that said, and I hope this honest review does not get pulled down like it has from other sites without notice, here goes.......The property had several feral cats roaming around, one of which made it's way to our patio, mangy and hissingThe website descriptions and lighting of the room and amenities were not accurate. The room was dark, damp, dirty, and the furniture was old and dusty. The bed mattress just rested on a metal frame and had no support with seemingly dirty linens. My husband was bitten by insects during the one night we stayed, and when he could not take it anymore, he informed the front desk staff around 6am and began to ask for a cancellation and refund., which we were not granted. The “private terrace” as mentioned on the website, is anything but private and neighbors, staff, construction have visibility into the room. The staff and construction workers hada driveway on the other side of the “private terrace” and people were coming and going all afternoon with cars.Just on the other side of our courtyard wall were piles of trash and multiple containers of trash bins filled with foul smelling trash. On the website they mention a “custom polished concrete soaking tub”. The tub was not protected by any sort of polish and was just concrete, actually outside in the converted drivewayThe toilet is outside of the room and is visible to the open air, with people walking by frequently. There is no privacy at all.The bedroom doors are very hollow and not secure. We could hear 2 other rooms discussion all throughout the night. The guests did not follow, nor did the staff enforce their “quiet hours.”We checked out of the room the next day and made our way to a lovely property, but we are still fighting the company for a refund. There is a reason for the 50% down payment as well as full payment of the remainder before you even make it to the room. It is my intention to let people know that this property does not live up to it's representation, and always look at the negative reviews with an open mind.Photos attached depict actual dingy look of room and patio as well as utter lack of privacy into our bedroom.

Truly a fine hotel dining experience in PR. Quaint, peaceful atmosphere, gorgeous grounds. Travelling with a vegan, I've had my share of plant-based meals, and our 4-course dinner was unique, delicious, and beautifully presented. For breakfast I had the omelette, and i cannot recall tasting fresher vegetables. Chef Victor and our server Zinnia genuinely wanted us to have a memorable dining experience, and they did not disappoint. When I return to San Juan, this place will be my first reservation.

Staying here was the best experience. It is so peaceful and tranquil. I stayed in the room, the Traveler. It has a balcony with a hammock chair and an outdoor bathroom, which makes it feel like you are in a traditional rural home. This place is perfect for when you want to be in the city area, but a peaceful hideout at the same time. There are tons of good restaurants nearby, and it is perfectly safe to just walk around and go to the beach.

My stay at The Dreamcatcher hotel was amazing. The ambiance was truly the best. The room I stayed in had 2 doors which I kept cracked the second night of my stay, because it was that comfortable there. The staff there was great as well. The food was great. If you are looking for a place the stay, and be walking distance to the beach. This the place to stay. To be honest this place is walking distance from the local restaurant's too.

This place felt like a dream. Every detail is perfect. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Unleash your bohemian side and embrace you may hear other people beside you but there is a strict quiet time. Just go with it and experience the best Puerto Rico boutique hotel. Ocean park beach was the best! Also safe everywhere.

I loved my stay here - it was amazing! The reason I gave the room a 4 star is because it was a little smaller than I expected, but as a solo traveler it was fine. Also I came during a heatwave which caused tiny ants to get into the room. While annoying it was totally manageable and the staff came and sprayed the cracks. The space is almost magical - between being beautiful and the welcoming staff, I can't wait to go back. The food was delicious even for a non-vegetarian. The location is perfect too - very close to the beach and many great restaurants. It is about a 15min Uber to Old San Juan and the Ubers are very affordable!

A beautiful boutique hotel, 1 block away from the beach! Hotel offers beach towels and chairs for free, which was beyond helpful. Complimentary reusable water bottle, water + ice dispenser, and outdoor showers (to clean off the sand before heading into your room for the real shower) were great perks. The bathroom/shower being outdoors for our room was a fun experience, felt like a true hippie. Staff were all nice, room was comfortable and cool. My only warning to readers: the melodious coqui can be heard throughout the night if that will bother you (it didn't bother us), and the wifi signal in our room was very weak.

I stayed at the Dreamcatcher with my husband to celebrate our first anniversary, and it exceeded my already high expectations! Really serene, relaxing vibes throughout the entire hotel. I never write reviews, but the entire staff was so friendly and accommodating, it felt necessary. The breakfast was delicious, the decor was thoughtful and beautiful, and the location couldn't be beat.

Dreamcatcher boutique hotel was fantastic. It had a great feel upon entrance with all the greenery and smells. The rooms were all unique in how they were set up with both indoor and outdoor spaces. It was cleans and the staff was extremely helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone!

Great stay. A short ride to Old San Juan. The beach was just a 2-minute walk away and excellent. Our room was well appointed and the staff was friendly and attentive. The place is in a residential area and we felt safe walking to local cafes, and restaurants. It has a bohemian, tropical vibe.

The room (#5) is really fun. The staff are very friendly. I love that you can just text them with any requests and questions. Also received a complimentary water bottle :)The only complaints are about the bathroom: the shower head is installed really tall, so the water is only warm at most when it reaches you. The shower curtain only covers half of the bathtub, so lots of water ends up on the floor that flooded the restroom a little.

Dreamcatcher is a total oasis. Even if you don’t explore Puerto Rico at all, this resort is total serenity, peace and calm. Somewhere to let go of worries and stress and recenter yourself. All the amenities you could ask for. The most friendly, helpful and inviting staff. Clean, well stocked, beautiful environment. I would recommend staying here 1000 times over. 2 blocks from a beautiful beach. The food served there was amazing and healthy. Beautiful, natural spaces with lots of plants and natural structures. Enjoy outdoor showers attached to rooms, simple living to decompress. Highly recommend.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying here on our honeymoon and could not have been more satisfied. The ambience was perfect for a tranquil visit. So much in fact we enjoyed our down time at The Dreamcatcher as much as the other beautiful attractions PR has to offer. It is unlike any other hotel experience we’ve had and can’t wait to return.

Jason Hatfield — Google review

It has probably been the most fun and relaxing stay I've ever had. You would never know you're 2 min from the busiest streets in San Juan because this hotel is a little Oasis. A place to reconnect with nature and your friends. Service goes above and beyond to make you want yo stay forever. This has quickly become our favorite to stay in the metro area. Highly recommend and will be staying here again and again.

This place was incredible. From the moment we arrived (in the dark mind you), we could feel the calming surrounding nature. The room was spotless and beautiful. The entire staff was accommodating and friendly. Victor was the best! We are already planning our next trip here. Try the guava mimosa!!!!

Such a beautiful sanctuary for our stay! While I wouldn’t recommend anyone tall stay in the glass house, we found it very cozy! The staff was always smiling and helpful. The air smells of incense 24/7, the grounds are maintained, and the food was delicious! We loved be only a short walk to the beach and enjoyed our morning yoga in the sand.

Heather Sommer — Google review

This is a tricky review, as the hotel for the most part was the epitome of helpful and welcoming. There is just one pervasive issue which they are not well equipped to handle - the coquis. Just be aware of what exactly you are booking and what that entails. The rooms are great, the staff and area is very chic, but at night these small frogs make the most consistent and annoying call which makes sleep difficult in what should be a relaxing environment. The rooms are not fitted with any sound proofing or other deterrents and all the staff will do is give you ear plugs that don't cancel out the noise. Conveniently, the staff contact/email also stops responding if you raise this issue. On average a group of coquis can reach 97 decibels, so imagine trying to sleep with a motorcycle revving up next to you and you get a good idea. If you can put up with that, have noise canceling headphones and don't mind playing white noise, or have another solution then you'll enjoy the hotel. The beach is very close by and the rooms are well equipped with outdoor showers, hammocks, and chairs to enjoy a island vacation. Otherwise the rooms run a little cold but that can be adjusted.

IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE SINCE WE STEPPED FOOT INSIDE!!! This is definitely a hidden gem in PR!!! The area is fabulous, at night it’s guarded with security. Staff is above all friendly and welcoming! Ubers are cheap to travel in hassle free! I wish I could give this place 10 stars because they deserve it. First time i write a review about a place I have stayed it because it is hands down the best place i’ve ever spent a night. A commercial hotel does not compare!

I was supposed to stay at this hotel for five nights. However, given the threat for severe weather, I chose to postpone my trip. The hotel has a policy of 1) requiring a deposit of half the stay of your cost up front and 2) charging the full amount for cancellations after a certain time. I was aware of this when I decided to postpone my trip, and contacted the hotel to see if they could offer me a credit that I could use sometime in the next 12 months. The hotel refused to do this. While I understand the terms I agreed to when I chose this hotel, I was hoping that they would be flexible given next week's weather and because, in asking for a *credit*, I was clearly indicating that I still planned to take my trip and wanted to stay at this property.I was excited to stay here. From other reviews, it sounds like a wonderful property . . . when there is not a hazardous weather outlook and a high surf advisory for the island and the hotel is not located two minutes from the beach. However, when I do take my trip to Puerto Rico next year, I will not be giving this property or the DW brand my business again given their choice to place profits over people.

It is a unique hotel.Noise from the next room, just feel like someone lying right next to you even you can hear their breath.Nice and safe location.Need to be renovated.Prepared chilled bottle of wine in my room were surprised 😧You need to be prepared to be bitten by a lot of mosquitoes.

As the property was previously some homes, some of the rooms are very unique, decorated very comfortably. Everyone was so nice, and the property was extremely clean. Under a 5 minute walk to the beach, and plenty to do even just within walking distance, I would definitely love to visit again.

The chef is amazing! His love and skill truly come through. The location is so close to the beach and the property itself is zen and dreamlike. The bed was a little soft for my liking, but that's honestly the only bad thing I could possibly say. The staff was so warm, welcoming, and helpful. I'll definitely be recommending my friends to stay here.

I loved everything about this B&B, the service is impeccable! The location is very good as the beach is close and the downtown of condado also! It is within a gated community. Everyone was so helpful and nice! The food to expect, even though it was just breakfast, it was still amazing and they do switch the vegan menu everyday.

We were in Puerto Rico for 4 nights, and honestly wished we stayed longer --and this hotel is a big reason why! The beauty is astounding with lush plants and flowers greeting you every step of the way from the moment you enter the property. There is a very peaceful energy throughout the hotel; running water, burning candles, the frogs chirping at night -- simply stunning!I cannot imagine a more kind and welcoming arrival than we experienced with Brian. That said, the entire staff was kind, friendly, professional, and accommodating. The beach is just a short walk away; it's beautiful, clean, and a bit windy (great if you're a kite surfer). The location of the hotel is in a security enforced gated community and is quiet and safe. It is also a short walk to many great restaurants and shops and a nice park. If you have a car, there is plenty of street parking. There are some quirks about the rooms, namely our outdoor shower was plumbed backwards so in order to get hot water you kept the dial towards 'C', not 'H'. But if you are familiar with PR you remind yourself "that's island life" and go about your day.All in all, we would love to return to Dreamcatcher for another visit.

This is the first hotel review I’ve ever written but I want to make sure that other travelers don’t face the same disappointment I did with this hotel!!The pros: the location is lovely and close to the beach. The commons areas are beautifully decorated. The cons: I would not recommend anyone to stay in room 8. I booked this through my credit card travel portal and saw beautiful pictures and great reviews. I spent >$200 on this room and was so excited to stay in a stylish, nicer stay for my last night in Puerto Rico. The room was extremely small with no amenities. While it had a private bathroom, it was not connected and I had to walk through the public courtyard every time I went to the bathroom. The disconnected bathroom was not mentioned when booking and I would not have stayed here if I knew that was the case. The quiet hours were not enforced - I was woken up at 6am by someone talking loudly in the courtyard (there is no sound protection so I could literally hear every word), and then I was woken up again by a very loud laundry machine somewhere on the property. If the stay had been $60 I would not have had a problem, but it was truly the worst $220 I have ever spent. Perhaps other rooms are better but I would not recommend this hotel and I will not be staying here again.

Absolutely loved our stay at this hotel! The service was exceptional—every staff member went above and beyond to make our visit comfortable. The rooms were immaculate and clean. We've already decided to come back and won't even consider staying anywhere else. Highly recommend for anyone looking for top-notch hospitality and comfort!

We stayed overnight before boarding a cruise. The hotel is very clean. More of a Bed and Breakfast feel. The staff was outstanding! Thank you Ronnie and Brian! My favorite part was the dining experience. Chef Victor made a four course dinner that was second to none. Chef Noah made breakfast the following morning. His Curry chickpea with pickled vegetables wrap, was amazing! You both should collaborate on a cook book! Highly recommend if your looking for something other than your typical hotel room.

The cutest place ever! In the suburbs of San Juan and walking distance to the beach. The place was super clean and the staff was very friendly. Would definitely stay here again. It was about a 10ish minute drive to old San Juan or a $9 Uber. Loved it!

Kate Fraser — Google review

Beautiful!Close to beach.Safe walking to nearby restaurants.Advice to future guests: if there is a disturbance during quiet hours, report it!!! Otherwise you might get accused. Our room had to be inspected for possible damages due to the banging and screaming (that wasn’t us and was below us). Eight hours later we wake up to a finger pointing text, yet staff had not reviewed security footage to help determine those disturbing the peace.I would stay there again. Next time I’ll be proactive to keep my name innocent.

Amy Atao — Google review

This was actually great stay. The location will give you a little pause if you were expecting a more lux environment to match the venue itself but the locals were friendly and welcoming. Very walkable but again it’s not in the nicest neighborhood so manage your expectations. When we needed something during our stay the app was very easy to use but the last time between a request and the actual service was a bit inconvenient. The rooms were well appointed and comfy. Parking was adequate. Overall our stay was good. Would definitely try them out again.
