Astound Broadband has nine standalone internet plans with 100–1,500 Mbps download speeds. The speeds and prices vary by area, but we’ve included a few standard plans and their price ranges above.

We think Astound’s 300 Mbps Internet plan is a tremendous value for most families, with enough speed to do a healthy amount of live TV streaming and online gaming. At $20.00 monthly with a 2-year price lock, this 300 Mbps plan comes at a better price than you’ll find from any competitor.

For larger households or gig gluttons who watch more streaming TV and play more games, 940 Mbps Internet is a solid deal at $34.99–$49.99 monthly. For comparison, Optimum 1 Gig is $80.00 monthly, while Xfinity’s Gigabit plan runs $65.00–$75.00 monthly.

But while Astound beats out other providers for promotional pricing, its prices rise an extra $15.00 to $133.00 monthly. We’d recommend keeping Astound’s competitors in mind before you get the bill for your thirteenth month.

Astound Broadband offers two TV choices—Basic TV (40+ channels) and Basic TV + Preferred TV (220+ channels)—which you can pair with any internet plan, ranging from 100–940 Mbps.

You can add phone service for an additional $1.00 to $10.00 per month, depending on your city and whether you pair it with internet or internet and TV. Every bundle has to include internet service when you order online, but you can call Astound to see if you can get standalone TV service.

Out of all of Astound Broadband’s bundles, we recommend the Gig Internet + Basic TV + Preferred TV bundle. It has Astound’s fastest internet speeds and 220+ TV channels, depending on location.

To drive home the point on value, Optimum 1 Gig + Select TV is $175.00 monthly for 940 Mbps download speeds and 340+ channels.

And Verizon Fios Gigabit Connection + More Fios TV costs $198.99 monthly for 940 Mbps download speeds and 300+ channels. But while it costs a bit more, Verizon Fios’s fiber-optic internet service is more reliable. Verizon Fios is a good choice for mid-sized families, online gamers, and those of us working from home.

Astound guarantees its TV and internet prices for a year, but Astound bundles jump in price after 12 months, just like standalone internet plans. Consider the competition if you’re not interested in shelling out for Astound’s ongoing expenses.

Astound Broadband internet equipment

Okay, gear geeks—let’s examine the devices you need (and might need) with Astound Broadband internet service.

  • Standard Wi-Fi & Modem ($8.00/mo.): A DOCSIS 3.0 modem/router combo.
  • Standard Wi-Fi & Gig Modem ($10.00/mo.): A DOCSIS 3.1 modem/router combo for higher speeds.
  • Enhanced Whole Home Wi-Fi Only ($9.95/mo.): The monthly fee for this mesh Wi-Fi service includes one base eero and one beacon eero, with additional eeros available for $5.00 each per month.
  • eero Secure+ ($9.99/mo.): Lock down your sweet new mesh-work with this doodad, which comes with antivirus software, ad blocking, VPN protection, password management, and more.

Yes, that means you’ll need to rent a modem/router from Astound Broadband—unless you can, I dunno, buy your own. Technically, Astound Broadband has a $79.95 installation fee, but you can easily avoid it by getting a self-installation kit. Astound Broadband also occasionally waives the fee when you sign up for service online.

Can I use my own modem/router unit with Astound Broadband internet?

Well, it turns out that you can use your own modem/routers with Astound Broadband internet service as long as it’s compatible with Astound Broadband internet speeds. See the table below for the internet provider’s recommended specs.

Astound's recommended modem/router specs

Astound Broadband internet plan speeds DOCSIS Min. # of downstream channels Ideal # of downstream channels
Up to 250 Mbps 3.0 8 24
300 Mbps 3.0 16 24
500 Mbps and up 3.1 16* 32

* No recommendation from Astound Broadband. This is CableTV.com’s suggestion.

Pay particular attention to downstream channels—a higher number is better. If your current modem/router has only eight channels, it will still work for speeds up to 250 Mbps. But if you’re buying a new device, get one with at least 16 downstream channels to ensure the best download speed.

  • Note that there are some exceptions to Astound Broadband’s bring-your-own-modem policy:
  • If you’re an Astound Broadband digital phone customer, you must use an Astound Broadband EMTA modem for your phone service.
  • If you live in an Astound Broadband fiber-to-the-home area, you’ll have to use an Astound Broadband internet device.
  • The Motorola MB8600 is not compatible with Astound Broadband’s network.
  • EURODOCSIS cable modems aren’t supported in the US so you can’t use them with Astound Broadband.

Astound Broadband internet FAQ

Where is Astound Broadband available?

Astound Broadband internet and TV service is available in these areas:

  • Boston, Massachusetts
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania
  • New York City (Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens)
  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Washington, DC
Which is better, Comcast or Astound Broadband?

For the speeds it offers, Astound Broadband is a much better internet provider than Xfinity, a.k.a. Comcast. To put it into perspective: Astound Broadband’s fast plan gives you 940 Mbps for $34.99–$49.99 a month (depending on your location). Xfinity’s Gigabit plan, on the other hand, is $65.00–$75.00 per month for 1,000 Mbps.

Is Astound Broadband better than Verizon Fios?

In terms of value, Astound Broadband is better. For context, Astound Broadband’s Gig Internet + Basic TV + Preferred TV has cable internet speeds up to 940 Mbps and 220+ channels for $151.60–$167.75 per month (prices vary by location), while Verizon Fios’s 500 Mbps Internet + Your Fios TV ($154.99 a month) has a 500 Mbps fiber-optic connection and 125+ channels.

Fiber connections are faster and more reliable than cable, and fiber also has symmetrical download and upload speeds. On that, Verizon Fios wins.

But if you don’t care as much about upload speeds, Astound Broadband’s internet download speeds are the same as Verizon. And you’ll get more than double the TV channels for the same, or possibly better, price.

Is Astound Broadband any good?

Astound Broadband is good—great, actually. It has cable connections from 100–1,500 Mbps, no contracts, no data caps, and prices that are hard for juggernauts like Verizon and Xfinity to beat.

Why is my Astound Broadband internet so slow?

Several reasons could explain why your internet connection is slow:

  • Do you and your family do a lot of streaming and gaming? You might need to upgrade to a faster plan to accommodate internet usage in your household
  • How old is your modem, router, or modem-router combo? Perhaps it’s time to upgrade.
  • What’s going on in the world? A general surge in internet traffic can slow down everyone’s cable connections.
  • What’s going on around you? Astound Broadband could be experiencing a service outage due to weather or some fool crashing his car into a utility pole near your house

These are the most common culprits, but there could be other reasons why your internet is slow. To troubleshoot your connection, contact Astound Broadband tech support at +1-866-832-4726.

What is better: Spectrum or Astound Broadband?

Astound Broadband has better internet packages compared to Spectrum, but Spectrum’s TV package is more affordable than Astound’s.

How reliable is Astound Broadband?

Like most regional internet providers, Astound Broadband generally offers good internet performance and it’s competitively priced compared to other cable internet providers.
